In altered scales, why is it 9 and not 2?
Can you say more around the subject....
Like what have you been working.... and what did you learn it from?
How long have you been on Guitar Wisdom and did you enjoy any sections?
Altered scale: R b9 #9 M3 b5 b13 b7 R
And 7th degree from melodic minor scale.
In music you hear this scale with more tension sounds like b9, #9...
Not so much reason but that's how I hear them.
Thank you.
Tomo
At 72 and being retired, I now have more time to spend actually improving my guitar playing and understanding of music theory. I’ve been a member of Guitar Wisdom for well over a year and have found it very helpful in both intellectual and physical stimulation, two areas important for an aging student.
As to my question, I’m unclear in the music nomenclature when one refers to (for example), the 2nd note of a scale as “2” versus “9”.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for explain about yourself. Very nice to hear that.
Same note. Could say Major 2, M2... but as tension we can call 9th.
Not so important this part.
Thank you.
Tomo
Hi,
The 2nd is called a 9th when it is an octave above the original pitch related to lowest root note.
Thanks! Now get it!
Thanks guys!
