Some suggestion on How To Play CAGED Form Chords in G & D

That was very useful. Wow! Thanks! I've been repeating note names and singing and doing intervals for months. Maybe too much haha
How might we apply this instead of going over patterns over and over? Voice leading, chord progression, improv? Any other thing? I just don't want to move to your applied section until I have a very strong foundation.
Any advice on how to apply CAGED or any other type of chord or inversion?
So happy to hear that. It was a little easier to make this video than writing explanation.
This is a part of foundation. Once you understand this relationship of triads over the fretboard.
Make sure that you can play these in any keys smoothly. CAGED is just triads.
Triads, 4 notes, any chords. You can use them though songs. Now that's why "Jazz Standard" section is so good!
Learn R 3 7 swing groove over many standards. Then you can apply 4 note voicings etc. Those are all theory applied section.
You can learn those.
Yes, I have many ideas around chords. CAGED is just triads over fretboard/location.
Do something very simple. G D C C ... I can think E form to D&C form for G...
D&C form to A form for D.... A form to G form to E form for C... when you play fills, 6ths, triads.\
Thank you.

Nice! That is what I am working on right now. I started to learn all the keys in a 1 4 5 chord progression in all parts of the fretboard, focusing on voicing leading or playing them in the same positions. :)
I will take a look at the jazz section as I'm learning the swing groove in Ab but now in E for a E blue improv. Cool I will try that as well.
Looks like in a few months I will start the applied section but not until I am fluid in the areas you suggested.
Thanks! :)

These reminders of sitting up straight help. Always forget this. Easy to just jump and start playing without these details.
Thank you for watching this video.
How you sit... is super important. That's why I gave my Berklee students homework... to make a video and post on YouTube.
Make sure to show entire body & guitar. So much we can learn just watching that together. I watch carefully body movement & rhythm from body movement. So I watch it without any sound first to see how much musicality comes from body motion.
Thank you.

My friend tells me "learn CAGED, it will set you free." I think, how is that so? I suppose the chord pattern becomes movable when played in a key. Seems that it would be confined to a Major tonal sound, how is that free I wonder. If I learn this CAGED system, am I stuck in a pattern again, what is the next step to get more color beyond the CAGED?
Thank you for sharing. If your friend story is true then, everyone is so happy right now!
In general, guitar is easy to learn by shapes fast but it's really difficult to master guitar. Life time journey.
A little easier to navigate the fretboard with those familiar open chord shapes. That's all. Yes. You stuck with shape concept.
Next step is do not right shapes down and learn triad inversion (Major) really really slowly! This will make a lot of freedom later.
Mateus Asato has a lot of freedom. Why? He studied triads so deeply! That's where you started to improve more and more.
Thank you.

I completely appreciate this advice, it helps this life's journey and I am on it! I like the triad roots feeling more fluid in owning the sound not shape. Back at the wood shed. GREATLY APPRECIATED!! -jf
You're very welcome! I was teaching one of my Berklee students where we are going over some Drop2 voicings on top 1234 set strings. Chord progressions lesson was F-7 Bb7 Bb-7 C7 so using two of each on each chords to make a fun voice leading today.
I teach triads a lot! Especially clean muting technique and using super light left hand pressure. This week is 4th week at Berklee and I still reviewing those triad inversions with 3 ways in C & F.
Thank you.
