I started learning Autumn leaves today and just was wondering why do you stress learning a swing feel so much? Compared with other guitar teachers online and elsewhere I've never seen such much of an emphasis. I've even learned many different genres and have come across the swing feel in quite a few songs but not many of them. Anyways just thought I'd ask. You know me, I always have questions :)

I have been playing guitar for many years. I have tried many things. For me, it's so important to master rhythm guitar. Then strumming & muting technique. Very simple! Down & up! Duration, muting... so much to learn!
I love simple things as you know! I found so much benefit through simple swing rhythm guitar.
Plus blues, jazz blues and standard songs. Best way to hear those beautiful chords while practicing rhythm guitar.
In private lessons, to play this swing groove with R 3 7 is very important! I teach same thing over and over.... slower and slower
until they can do this! Because a lot of people want to play funk guitar and fast chord changes! This part is super important!

Hi Tomo,
Today I had a a good session learning Autumn Leaves and doing it in a swing fashion. For the fun of it I compared it with the straight up and then swing, and swing is so much, more fun and even sounds more rhythmically beautiful. Having fun learning it in this fashion and the shell chords (or the 3 note R 3 7 variations you give in the lesson) are so lovely as well.
Cheers for the Autumn Leaves lesson! It is such a meditation to play it over and over again... in swing fashion, of course! :)

Hi Tomo,
By the way do you have any strumming tips for someone who likes to play fingerstyle and not use a pick? I generally use my thumb from down strokes and a variety of ways to do an up strum from one finger to multiple fingers on different strings kinda like the classical style I guess.
So, any tips for fingerstyle strumming would be great! Thanks!
You can use just one finger or just thumb or all fingers!
There is not one right way to do with fingers! Just fun with all possibilities!
For tighter strumming like Funk. One finger or thumb is good.
You can enjoy all possible ways.
