Hey everyone!
I'm 18 years old and have a strong grasp on modes however I am "relearning" to try and be more mindful of my playing and unlock FRETBOARD FLUENCY!!! (Thank you Tomo) The problem is that I learned the CAGED system around the beginning of my playing and find myself reverting back to that during my soloing. The question is, how do I practice modes? I know it's extremely tedious and time consuming to go through each of the 12 keys and their 7 different modes and I also know it's actually only 12 scales because of how they all connect. I just can't wrap my mind around it and apply it to my playing and practice effectively!
Thank you for sharing this here.
Maybe you can try a few modes first?
Dorian mode.... Mixolydian modes etc.
Play melodic within one mode.
To do this, you can do something with limitation.
For example, do not play any notes above 12th frets.
Only focus on top 3 strings etc.
Learn more triads!
How about use more diatonic triads for your improvisation?
Did you check any applied theory section?
You are so young! You can change anything!
Don't worry! Don't hurry! Go super slow!
Don't think too much CAGED shapes! Think more intervals & triad inversions. (smaller)
Thank you.
Tomo
