So much fun playing that shuffle bassline!
I often use this song to teach my students at Berklee.
Especially someone who wants to play fusion music.
I need to teach the origin of fusion music... blues, jazz, funk...

That cool phrase on the 5 and 4 chord starting at 4:00 sounds perfect in Chicken shack. The half step slide into the notes makes it sound just right. You have nailed it! I like the spaces in your solo. That solo is full of killer phrases. I will be slowing this down! It;'s a note in my notebook. I'm still using it.
This whole lesson is really an overview of all the stuff I like to hear and love trying to learn to play.

Thank you Kurt! In general I play something (colorful to each chord) on IV & V. If I play straight minor pentatonic, I really have to make myself to commit with simple sound.

Chromatic line and rhythmic resolution are very important to make as musical sound.

It's best to transcribe without slowing down (unless super fast and just don't get it)

What a classic blues melody (Double stops)
You can develop solo from this melody!

I do a lot bending up to M3 so that you can hear that chord!
I like to use triads too. But no need to use all 3 notes.

That horn section trick is super easy!
Please learn that one for fun.

That funky rhythm guitar is a great way to work on left hand muting purpose too.
And bassline and 3&7 guidetone. Glad you like it.

Good catch! I use Diminished sound on 6 bar or anywhere then I use Augmented sound on V.
Could be diminished arpeggio or a whole tone scale (V)

So it's blues in E but I add a little jazzy essence. And somehow I use "Vocal melody" from blues, soul songs. Similar to BB King phrasing. Singing guitar. Country licks are important too!

I can see... Maybe I should make "Funky Blues Solo & Rhythm Guitar" lesson.
I teach this at Berklee a lot. It's important technique for "Jam"

Walking bassline and talk to people or playing walking bassline and sing melody.
I teach this a lot to my students a lot. Bass player can do so we should!
