Hi, GW community:

Yesterday came my new Fender Vibrochamp reverb, my first valve amp. I have some questions:
How long do I have to wait before start playing after switching the power on ? I know that the amp has to warm up.
How do you know when to change the valves? Can I do it myself or it is difficult or dangerous?
Can the amp be powered on without the guitar cable plugged in ? or I have to plug in the guitar and then switch the amp on?

Any advice to take care on my amp?

I've heard all kinds of things about breaking in amps. Tomo and the other students here will know a lot, I'm sure.
The tubes are one thing to think about. The speaker is another. And don't forget your hearing protection :-)
Is there a standby switch on those? If so, you can turn it on and standby and let it warm up for a while. If not, just turn it on for a couple minutes to warm up. I don't really think you can hurt it if you just start having fun. You will have fun! I'm interested to hear what others say. We'll all learn!

The tubes will start producing sounds once they warm up. They are generally easy to change if you are careful because you can zap yourself if you aren't! You should be able to get good mileage out of a new set of tubes, unless you are playing very high gain or are just wanting to try some different tube values. I think those have 12AX7 Preamp tubes. You could try ones with other values to see what you prefer. When they start going bad, you can have a few symptoms like crackling, popping, static, squealing, or other unusual noises when playing, volume dropouts, really bad distortion, loss of tone etc.

I don't think VibroChamps have a standby. Make sure your speaker is plugged into the amp head when it's powered on or you can cause damage to the amp. You can turn the amp on without guitar plugged in, but if you have your volume cranked and you plug into the jack, it can sometimes cause speaker damage, as well as loud ugly noise!
