Hi, I'm new to GW. I just had the privilege of meeting Tomo. I have a question about FTR03. Here goes. At about 10 minutes into the lesson, Tomo starts connecting the triads by playing an A, E, F#m, D (I,V, vi, IV) progression, but then about a minute later (11 minutes) started playing something else (I think). What was that? Can you please tell me what Tomo was doing and how can I use this to build improvised leads? Many Thanks, Harris
Thank you Harris! Great meeting you over Skype! Thanks for asking this. I will check it now!
I played Do Re Mi from each chord & played two triad inversions.
Then I play as a performance (not think too much about theory) so I was playing Major scale, minor scale, minor pentatonic, Major pentatonic but only I picked 2-3, maybe 4 notes from these scales and carefully not think about any shapes. Good catch! I was imagining B7 chord right before Em7 so I played Diminished arpeggio over B7 chord which is M3 5 b7 b9. A little bit classical & jazz sound. That was a little out side of 1 5 6m 4... V of VIm...
So question is can you transcribe it?
If answer is no.. then you need to learn more scales on one string & triad inversions, and Ear Training more. So you can lift these notes up and analyze them.
To build a solo like this, learn more harmony, chords!
If I could not hear imaginary B7 there, then I could not play that phrase.
Thank you.
Tomo
