I am recovering from carpal tunnel and I have noticed my strumming hand experiences pain (tension/discomfort). I was strumming with an open grip almost like an okay sign (fingers flared out) with my pointer finger pointing forward towards the edge of the pick and my thumb horizontal. After watching many different videos on guitar wisdom I noticed my pick grip needs to change and both my thumb and pointer finger should be horizontal and it looks like your other fingers are always closed loosely. Is this how I should position my other fingers? Also when strumming should my wrist be loose? I feel like a lot of motion comes from my wrist however it looks like you dominantly use your forearm and swing from your elbow. I tend to swing mostly from my wrist, is this incorrect technique? How much should I be using my wrist, if at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Thank you Jakob for sharing your experience. Ask Ken for some advice on this.
How about R 3 7 Swing Groove?
Did you watch any lesson videos regarding R 3 7 Swing Groove?
I think you need to have a foundation technique which you don't use that much wrist motion.
But your wrist is very relaxed so there is no tension at all. Almost loose your pick because you need to hold a pick as loose as you can.
Great question! Thanks so much for making this thread.
Thank you.

Maybe he could post a video of his playing and you could give him some technique pointers?
I don't think I have watched R37 Swing Groove. I will check it out this weekend. I definitely have pick technique that needs improvement. I use a 0.58 pick and I grip it super tight. I have a very heavy hand. I saw the form with Ken and started reading through it and watching the videos. I ordered some of the pick boy picks you recommended. Thank you for help.
Okay! Please watch it so you can see how to play basic rhythm guitar.
I hold my pick super loose and I use 1.00mm pick for over 30 years!
I use only one kind of picks all the times.
Not bad idea to look into how to hold a pick softer and having a relaxed wrist etc.
Thank you for sharing.

Sorry, Jacob, I’ve been so caught up in other things that I just now saw this thread! Let me give it some proper thought so that I can make a cogent response. It sounds like you’ve already gone through the thread. “Picking Too Deep”. There’s a lot in there to draw from.
I will get back to you soon. If you had the surgery recently, I would say it’s important to be patient and allow it to heal well. Usually, people come back from this procedure very well, but it could take some time. Everyone is different. More later.
