I used to listen this song when I was 14! I have listened so many time.
This song is very funky! I can show you how to play those chords.
Great for Ear Training to hear those chords and understand this song form.

Good job! Work on Major triads, minor triads, diminished triads are R b3 b5
so play minor triad and move 5th to b5!

Wow, that's an awesome understanding! Kind of makes my head spin! But hopefully brick by brick, we'll get there. On a positive note, I listened to the Thrill is Gone and was able to discern the key and the progression and solo over it in BMaj pentatonic, (I think I got it right, but a noob...so maybe I'm wrong lol)... 😂

This song is very special because this album was one of 3 records that I borrowed from a guitar player (When I joined this band as a rhythm guitar player for one show) This guitar player was very nice that he let me borrowed these 3 albums.

1) Freddie King "1934-1976" (This album included a few songs from Bugler album.
2) BB King "Live at the Regal"
3) Otis Rush "Cold in hell"

I think he felt that I didn't have enough blues music inside of me... so nothing will come out!
Even I memorized 5 minor pentatonic shapes! He was correct! I did forget to return these albums!

Freddie King influenced a lot on Eric Clapton.
Eric Clapton influenced a lot on Eddie Van Halen

That is a great memory Tomo! The band needed a guitar player and you got the gig and the albums, I love it. At least you can say you got paid in trade. Back then those albums were probably easy two find and you got lucky, so cool. I do hear the powerful, very powerful vocals in the recording levels, like Freddy pegged the needle on the sound board. Eric Clapton most definitely has that in many of his power songs too, full on vocals. I have been practicing the advice in your lesson version with that excellent description of notes and chords. I am using my ear too. I played parts of it at a busy pawn shop the other day while testing out some P90 pups in a epi ES339, I got compliments how I play nice guitar :) I really like this tune. So in terms of deep listening, I have listened several times now. So say I'm in the kitchen, and when I hear the guitar parts in my head, then grab a guitar real quick and try it out. Later on I will listen to real version and double check. It has been very enjoyable song to learn and it is new to me! I am applying theory and the triad inversion to Vm all new to me. Appling more minor too, again your lesson example really inspires me to improve. Learning small bits at a time and taking it slow. Kind Regards, - johno

Im not too familiar with Otis rush but realized one of the songs I’ve been listening to a lot on a Led Zeppelin album I have Otis rush recorded initially. Pretty cool. Goes to show you can trace a lot of music back to the same places.

This was another comeback for Otis. Then he would disappear for years.
Otis and Albert King both played left-handed with the strings reversed. High E was where Low E usually is. Like you turned the guitar upside down. Those awesome bends are when they pull the strings down. I was super lucky to see both of them live in the 80's.

This is so nice Tomo! And, you hardly look at the fretboard. So as you know, most of us learned the fateful pentatonic box and subsequently went into the pentatonic prison! Which is an awful place to live.

I realize this is more complicated than it sounds, but how does one begin to break out of it, NEVER to return?

If I see it solely from the standpoint of triads, it lacks flow and I tend to look for the box 📦 again!
