Hello Tomo (and Sammi/George),
For those who are new or have been here awhile and everyone in between GW has definitely been a good choice for online courses.
Before discovering Tomo and his YT channels and coming to GW, I would say I was in the beginner category. I knew a bunch of songs with mainly cowboy and barre chords. I really didn't know much beyond this. Maybe I knew the classical Am pentatonic box in 5th position but no notes or intervals or anything like that. I wanted to improve and went online to search for teachers or websites or YT channels. Most of these were mainly watch my YT videos but didn't do much in terms of instruction nor did it give a pathway for success. I enjoyed Tomo's slow, don't compare, learn deeply philosophy so I took the plunge.
One year later and I have definitely improved much more than I thought I would. Now I'd say that I know and can do much, much more then when I started. I now know major, minor, diminished triads all over the fretboard in almost all keys; I know 7th drop 2, major and minor CAGED in a variety of positions and can use them in some commonly used progressions with confidence; I understand major and minor scales in 4-5 positions and know their notes and intervals along with solfege in most cases as well as diatonic chords/7th chords; my technique is much stronger and I can do hammer on/off, bends, vibrato, harmonics, stress and dynamics well enough and am slowly incorporating them into my playing; I am beginning to be able to do some basic improv and understand what I am playing and why something works or not; I am now beginning to understand arpeggios and have begun to add them into improv situations; I know shell cords on the 6th and 5th string and can use them in some basic blues and jazz situations; and my playing of songs is improving to say the least.
I could definitely go on and on about how I have improved. And sure a lot is on our shoulders to learn and practice and repeat until we know it but I can confidently say that joining GW has pushed my playing and knowledge to heights I never knew I could get to before. I was always so frustrated but now I have a pathway to success. And now I am an unstoppable force. :)
So, Cheers Tomo and team for GW. And much appreciation to the GW subscribers as well. Your support and interactions and growth is always informative and encouraging.
Here, here GW! Keep it up folks. You got a good thing going!
