Hi Tomo- you’ve spoken extensively on how John Mayer’s neon was born from limitations in imitating your slap guitar technique. Beyond the technique , I’d love to see a theory focused lesson on the voice leading John uses to construct the neon progression, since it doesn’t follow conventional V-I cadence, maybe even a breakdown of his life in La version. Also- I dont mean to just make brazen requests lol- a lesson would be cool, but my base question is really how, in addition to the thumb slapping bringing the bassline to life, I’m interested in the theory of how the progression works and if anyone has any insights.
