This video was probably the first (or maybe one of the first) videos that I saw on YouTube of Tomo's.
It's the G / A-7 / A-7 / G jam with Zack "Young John Mayer" Gibbs. I just revisited this video and I'm really glad that I did. Watching it at slower than 100% on YouTube really shines a light on some of the things that Zack is doing. After spending a lot of time with triads, I can really see how much Zack is using them. This is really good motivation to keep at it (and also to steal some of Zack's licks). Tomo has some really tasty playing in this video too, but unfortunately you can't really see his hands, so it's up to your ears to steal some of his licks.
I actually downloaded the audio from this video and I listen to it, not only for guitar practice, but also just because it's REALLY GOOD MUSIC!
This video from a day or two ago is what sent me back to the video that I linked above.
I love that the general YouTube channel videos supplement the content here on GW. I keep having these "a-ha moments" that keep opening doors for me and also show me how much more there is to learn.
My expectation is not to learn too fast, but to learn every day.
Thanks Tomo! You've built something special!
Thank you Matt for sharing this!
So great to hear that! It's very special!
Zack studied with me for his 4 years!
Zack is so talented & his dedication, commitment...so amazing!
He was so surprised about my amp setting at his first lesson.
We did so much "Triads" and "R 3 7" I repeated so many same lessons for him.
Good job! When I learn something from YouTube. I just download the audio and focus on the sound! That's better way!
I would love to make more casual additional lesson videos for GW members!
Do something everyday and enjoy each moments.
You're very welcome!
You made my day Matt!
Thanks so much!
PS, I have more jam or talk videos with Zack Gibs (10 videos!)
Tomo
Thanks for sharing this, Matt! You are touching on an important part of enjoying your guitar practice - those musical moments that make you say "I gotta learn that!". Of course, disciplined work is important, but so is finding inspiration and motivation. Thank you for reminding us to strike that balance between work and play. We are happy to have you here!
