Not very important, but I've been meaning to ask you about the Blues Shuffle Bassline.
I heard if the melody is descending, it is called the "Downtown" groove. If it is ascending it is called the Uptown groove"

This lesson would be the "Downtown Groove" because the melody is descending.

Do you ever hear those bass lines being referred to that way?
I know you don't use some terms like "Shell Chords" for R37 forms.

Going down bassline = downtown

Good shuffle = flat tire!
Something like that.

Shell voicings, shell chords are popular term...but think about shape is not that great,

Yes , Kurt , Today I practice with Tomo : R 3 7 groove strumming , my pick seems hold too tight , no moving and drop

Good job johno! I know how time to practice can get short.
Each night, I always feel better if I was at least able to pick up the guitar for 5 minutes that day.
I have been trying to practice without the guitar. Mowing the lawn or on a walk. (Not when cleaning the kitty litter boxes. I have to really concentrate for that most important function they keep me around for.)

Yes! Many lessons. When you are playing a progression with him, often he just starts soloing after a while. The Jazz Standards section has a lot of lessons teaching comping and then he will solo at the end. Always catches me off-guard. "Oh, I think he wants me to keep going ".
With his metronome going it is easier to stay with him.

Soloing too! (More space is good too. No need to fill entire bar(s)..)
Good job! Pick softer. This case, you need more volume and comp much softer so you save more volume when you play solo. Picking volume must!

Listen your solo! Your tone is screaming to me. As if you are playing unplugged... then you cannot hear your sound from your guitar ....but your picking is showing too much volume! Picking volume is very hard to control!

Thanks Tomo. Thank you for your observations, which I agree with completely, but would have missed without your help.

Bring up volume for comping to allow more volume in solo and softer picking. Makes total sense! And more space for sure.

What's going on to some extent is that I feel tense and intense about 'finding' what I want to play on the fly. This leads to tightness in both hands. I'd liken it to hunting and pecking on an old typewriter (does anyone remember those?). But your suggestion regarding space and softer picking with higher volume would really help. I want to get rid of my belief of having to 'keep up' with every chord, and allow time to be my friend. This is a worthwhile endeavor!

Volume was not loud enough. Too comfortable!

Do not play on the fly!
You should learn & practice so your solo is already studied & practiced 60-70%

Try not give you a chance to play intense! Relax! Slow, Less notes, more preparation!
Do not play every beats! Maybe two beats "REST" then play your phrase on....

I totally forgot that I play this on Jazz Standard section.
So glad to see that I made this. This is how I practice my improvisation with a metronome!
This way if I get lost... so clear! With backing tracks (cannot improve anything because overprotected by chords!)
