Hi Tomo-san,
I can't find where in the forum I think I saw, but I think you wrote "play slow, not comfortable" in some kind of discussion related to transcribing songs not too long ago. When I read it (hope I'm not making this up), I understood it as "play slower than the record, but faster than what you feel comfortable." I know you think it is better to transcribe at the original speed if that is possible, and you recommend transcribing songs that is not too fast or too slow. But now I'm wondering if I understood what you meant right in that thread/context since you always emphasize practicing slowly, even slower than what you feel comfortable, for a lot of foundational exercises and fundamental understanding of sounds like triads and scales. Can you please clarify what you meant?
Thank you!
Yuji
Thank you Yuji for asking this.
Play slow is so good!
Most people would choose comfortable tempo.
Once you do wrong move... no matter how many hours you out...
You will stuck in same place.
As you play slow.... eventually you can play faster, smoother...
It will take some time.
For transcribe, pick a proper song with your level (with original speed)
Then you should practice it with slower tempo so that you can fix more things.
Or you will notice alternate picking, each duration... more details.
Bottom line is don't hurry!
Thank you.
Tomo
