Hi everyone! Ive recently discovered an amazing guitarist from Japan - Toshiki Soejima. It seems what he plays is "neo soul" which i hadnt heard of before and sounds lovely and serene. Im a beginner still and still going through the ET and B sections but wanted to know which lessons would work great to learn this style (neo soul) for the future. Go check out him out and thanks in advance for the help!!
Thank you Thiago!
I have played with Toshiki Soejima last year and we just jammed without any plans.
Ended up... we made EP together! Lookup his name & my name on spotify.
Neo Soul is... mixture of Jazz, Bossa, R&B, funk ... all tasty stuff.

And don't forget this great YT collab I came across a while ago.
An EP together? That is amazing! Thanks for informing us! Neo-Soul is great!
Thank you Michael for sharing!
Let me share a little things (behind this video)
I decided not to talk about how to play.... so let me assistant to set up my gear...
Then when everything is ready to go. I didn't say anything to Toshiki... I just started playing...then Toshiki started playing around me... Then we started playing together.
I just did not even mention how to what to do! Spontaneous is the best for improvisation music!
Thank you.
Hi Thiago!
I’ve been learning guitar from him for about a year.
At first, he taught me how to play jazzy chords like major 9, minor 9, and dominant ♭13 on the 6th and 5th strings.
His soloing is heavily inspired by Tom Misch, so he usually doesn’t use complicated scales — he mostly sticks to pentatonics.
He often adds 9ths and ♭13ths to his pentatonic phrases!
If you want to play like him, I think you should transcribe his playing, analyze it through the lens of pentatonics, and think in terms of scale degrees.
I hope this helps your playing!
Thank you Junuchiro!
Tom Misch influenced Toshiki a lot!
