Yes! Relax and don't worry! I miss a lot! This way (only way!) for learning and improving!
I just demostrated playing D Major scale and not hit all correct!

Do not slide any note! You don't want too much hint! Jump from note to note!
This is just a part of July Challenge so this style we do one project in one month.
But this type study... it will take more time to sink in. Don't expect too fast! Can't rush it at all!

This is where some people can get impatient very easily especially smart people who wants to know how long.... It may takes 29 days... maybe 39 days? So if you think a pattern of how long... easy to get frustrated! I just love guitar so much so I do until I can do it better!

Yes! This exercise is great for preparing "Performance"

I hear you Richard. That was the first time I set a timer to do exercise. I actually am usually playing hours and hours. However I end up bouncing around. I am trying to focus my thought to one thing at a time for the allotted time is all. Keep up the awesome work.

I feel the same way Serena.
Sometimes (even if I’m practicing for a short time) my mind will wander and I’ll find myself bouncing around.
Need to refocus and pay attention to what I was intending to do.

Hi Richard! Happy to hear the eyemask helped you! I know how hard it is to stop when something feels unfinished. It can be uncomfortable to limit how much time you spend on something, but give it a try and see what happens. Likely, you will feel unsatisfied, but that also makes you more eager to practice in the next session. This challenge will introduce a new focus each week, but take as much time as you'd like!

Thank you posting this video. It is so helpful to hear and see how to use the one string approach while slowly moving up the neck.

Also helpful to see how wrong notes are “not wrong” but audio feedback for learning. Thank you for showing us what patience looks like. :-)

I always seem to connect to your posts Serena.
I can be critical and harsh to myself too.
Not sure where that comes from but I know for sure that it is not helpful for the learning process.
Need to retrain my brain.
I want to be a great player so badly.
I want to feel comfortable when I have the opportunity to play with other great players but I get very intimidated and start to think…
‘I don’t know what I’m doing. I shouldn’t be up here. They are so much better than me.’
I don’t want to feel that way anymore.
Hoping that this challenge will change that feeling but I’m not sure if I’m expecting to much?
But we continue on!

I hear you, Serena. It's very easy to be critical of ourselves... imagine your son practicing this, what would you tell him? Then treat yourself with the same kindness!

Rich, I can relate to that feeling of impostor syndrome. Most people experience this at some point in their lives. When you go outside your comfort zone and care what others think, self-doubt has a way of talking you out of it and opting for safety. I had someone encourage me to doubt my thoughts, and it helped me a lot. For example, if your mind is saying, "I shouldn't be up here," you say, "I doubt that's true". Try it out. Interrupt the negative self-talk.

Do great to feel some similarity between you guys.

Great players are so critical themselves.
So first thing, you need to drop expectaion and reasons.

Slow down.
Do less items.
Do not jump around.
Only way to wrtte some notes down everyday (even repeat writing same things)

To be able to feel comfortable to play others,
More preparation on foundation.
1) Chromatic scale
2) R 3 7 Swing Groove with a metrome
3) Triad Study

Those are priory to become a great player!
If you do jump around a few backing tracks = filling your satisfaction.
If you focus on one standard, then just one song for a few weeks.

It's not easy at all!
But you can practice how to focus on less topics,
You need to wrire anything in your mind to your small note book.

Without any good prepoaration, you cannot play comfiorably...so
when you jam with others, take all positive ways... try to fill in gaps.
Only way to know is to record yourself!

Please don't feel intimedated at all!
Don't judge yourself anything.
Trust me! Don't expect anything!

That's so true that if you only playing those 3 triads over and over... could be boring!

Becuase I don't only repeat same D triad (3 of them) over and over.
First I am thankful to be able play guitar today!
then I feel these triads as my musical guide, feeling music, feelking my future, feeling each touch, dynamics.. many thing. So I want to say that you need a little wild imagination more than these triads.

Did you try all these? Did you write all down?

1) One string / one finger approch to play D Major scale.
Think name of notes / eacg intervals / sing Do Re Mi.
apply D Major scale to sing these:
a) Do Re Mi, Re Mi Fa...
b) Do Re Mi Do, Re Mi Fa Re,
c) Do Mi, Re Fa
d) Do Re, Do Mi,
Sing first then play them without looking, no sliding.

2) Play D Triad Inversions on one string (2nd string)
Do Mi So, Mi So Do, So Do Mi...
Did you try these without looking at the fretboard?

3) Play D triad inversions on 123 set strings.
Super slowly! Stay each triad for 4-5 seconds or more.
Did you play them super slow?

Please let me know how detail did you practice these and
did you keep your positive feeling without any doubt?

Good job! Single String / Sequencings / 3rds are not easy so you need to repeat slowly, make sure give yourself enough time to feel, sing that note before you touch it. Not looking!

Yes! This singing, one string one finger approach with a few ptterns are a great way to gain relative perfect pitch!
