I know that music is a personal thing. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes. For example, my wife hates jazz and is not a big fan of outlaw country, both of which I love. In fact, I can’t think of a single genre of music that I don’t love. Well, except maybe Hip Hop, which I used to hate, but now that I am letting my hair grow out, it’s kinda growin' on me. Anyway, I think the professor wants us to listen to music for an hour or two every day. I realized I have been paying $12/month for Spotify, and frankly, I have hardly used it at all for the past 9 or 10 months. So I asked ChatGPT to make me a list of 4 or so tunes/songs for each of 7 or 8 genres that it thinks would be good for an intermediate guitar player to listen to for an hour or so before practicing to get a better feeling for things like rhythm, lyricism, tone quality and variation, dynamics and comping (one player backing down, quitting down and yet complimenting another player while they take the lead). To the list that ChatGPT gave me, I added 10 or 15 of my own choices. For the past three or four days, I have been listening to it for an hour or two while lifting weights, fishing, or riding my bike. I love to put it on “shuffle”. That way, I never know what I’m going to be listening to. Whatever it is, I try to focus on rhythm, tonal quality, and variations, but especially on dynamics and comping as well, of course, as simplicity and honesty of melody or chord progressions, and how it makes me feel. You should see me trying to tap out a rhythm on my thighs or dance in my rowboat while fishing.
Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying their own playlists as much as I am now enjoying mine. Thanks for the kick start, professor. If anyone is interested in checking out my playlist or even adopting it or parts of it to build their own, here is the link:
