Sometimes when I skip ahead to Applied Music Theory, I find it hard to understand without finishing more of the Essential videos first. Should I complete all the Essential ones before moving on?
I could just memorize intervals like studying for a test, but if I want to really understand their qualities and functions, it takes much longer. How should I pace myself?
Thanks!
Thank you Junichiro for asking this question.
You answered by yourself!
1) Do not skip!
2) Stay in one topic a little more longer!
3) No need to worry about too much ahead (Like should I do all?)
4) No need to memorize anything! Be familiar with things with slow pace.
Do all much slower. Don’t decide how long.
Do it deeply until you feel comfortable to understand in details.

I was getting too impatient about improving. I’ll go through the Essential series little by little, focusing on mastering it rather than just memorizing. Since moving to the city, I’ve been seeing many players better than me and got anxious, so I haven’t been enjoying practice lately. I’m going back to the basics and will practice guitar while having fun.
That is so understandable! Remember "Don't compare!" and also "Try not to be number one, try to be the only one."
Little by little, you are getting to where you want to go. Believe it!
Thank you Junichiro to sharing your honesty!
I totally understand how frustrated about this.
Good job! Try not to focus on mastering. Be familar with the material.
Don’t compare with others. Just respect them! Admire them! We all need to work on foundations.
Practice part is not really fun but if you trust yourself… gradually you feel better. So be patient!
I always go back to basics! I am not afraid to slow down or go back to foundation becxause that’s only way to imoprove!

Thank you Sammi for suggestions!
Yes! And do 1 through 10…
At 10… you record yourself and you will disappointed your playing!
Then go back to 1! (My Karate teacher told me this. 10 things to do.
