I also found the lesson: "FT Root 3rd 7th Swing Groove Technique". Thought I would share a short clip from my practice today based on that.
I am trying to practice a couple of very specific things each day. Sometimes I isolate one of them and focus on that for a short period of time. I find that if I try to think about improving more than 2-3 things when actually playing it is too much to think about. Some of the items I've covered in the last week are:
> hold pick very lightly
> slightly use the edge of the pick when playing
> wide strumming
> be more patient
> when root on 5th string, try to play the 3rd clearly
> try to mute cleanly between chord changes
Anyway, so many good lessons on R 3 7 here and on YT. So much fun. Thank you.
Hi jh,
Thank you for sharing.
This is very helpful, and inspiring.
I like the idea of focusing efforts to a few key things. That is all I can sustain intense practice focus on too.
Sounds clean to me, I am not able to hear issues with muting.
I am keeping in mind that the profile of my finger(s) as it points at my eyes is more like the TF standard guitar picks, not like an ellipse or a squished circle as I tend to imagine. Then raising middle finger slightly and increasing bend angle at first joint slightly seems to help 4th string muting on R37 chords (IV, V).
I am still woodshedding between I and IV.
Sounds like you got it.
Well done!
Also your shoulders, neck, face seem relaxed. How does your rh feel? Difficult to tell tension there from this angle. Looks good to me.
Thanks jh!
So smart to concentrate and focus on a couple things each day.
SO many details to play something that sounds simple to someone that hasn't tried to do it.
I appreciate seeing and hearing this. I have a 175 like that I love. I've put flat wound string on it.

I can hear the metronome dragging. I have no idea how to train tempo other than either be in a marching band or pretend you are in one. walk to songs. A lot of Tomo's songs actually I will walk to. More like a power walk or fast walk. Also lots of fun to do this.

Sweet job on the fundamentals jh! Thanks for sharing.
Yes, thanks, LaVoy. You are correct, the timing was off, and something I will need to work on. I’ve been taking Tomo’s advice to practice without a metronome. I am more concerned about the tone production and technique for the time being.
