Rhythm guitar is so important. Less notes and more space for other players.

3rd & 7th = guidetone! I use those two notes a lot. Rose Room is a great song to practice R 3 7 groove with very slow tempo. Great chord progression too.

Hey Jeffrey - I've been getting a lot out of working on "All of Me" rhythm part. Tomo's fingering is all 3 note voicings, with some pretty difficult muting - not too hard to learn, but hard to make sound good. But then, there are some fairly tricky chord changes in the second half of the song and a 1 6 2 5 turnaround at the end. Playing this in time with metronome has been a great challenge for me - I almost always race through the trickier chord changes. But it has helped me get better each time.

I’m still going on rose room right now. And going to try to simplify just with 3rd and 7th guidetone and try that.

Another way to practice your rhythm playing and time feel would be to "practice with Tomo". While Tomo plays solo, you practice comping. This type of exercise may come after your practice with a metronome and yourself, but I have a feeling you would enjoy trying this to "check" your timing. Maybe instead of soloing while Tomo comps, you could just groove and feel with your body. Just an idea! After all the years of hearing Tomo play in the basement, whenever I hear the rhythm guitar parts, it sounds like home. That kind of familiarity is so special. I may not know how to play guitar, but I can certainly feel it.

Richard, I agree with you. I think you have tapped into the secret sauce that makes this Forum work so well. I love how this community is so supportive of others. And I find myself missing some of the forum members if they have been away for awhile. It always cheers me up when they chime back in.

Also, once the visualization sinks in, it disappears.

I don’t have any map memorized, I just focus (or try to) on where I’m at on the fretboard,
while knowing a map exists I just try to know where to go or what the next step is.

For all learning I feel, for me, the tools or visualizations should drop away at the end. I think that’s when I think I’m starting to understand.

Also, after all of this, talk is cheap (but being kind to myself…haha) getting closer to actually posting a video about triads. Back to Preparation…

Visualze that sound! Then you move your fingers and thinking about the fretboard! (for triad exercises)

But don't want to label any number type sysyems! Just try to hear that sound! When you practice you can think name of notes, intervals and Do Mi So... and all those!~

Working on terse communication.

Everything I said, can be summarized as:

“I’m going through life, life is hard, putting it into the guitar practice”.
But everyone is. Also never know how to summarize until I write it all out…entering in notepad app, editing and maybe waiting a day before posting. It does feel like I am starting to understand my feeling around making the videos.
Feels like it’s working.

So I hope the entries help someone.

Difficult to balance forum and practice for me. My thumbs are nuts. Figuring it out.

You are a deep thinker, Sunil. You are making progress, and we’re lucky to see it through your comments! Tomo reminds us to do the hard things, whatever they may be. Is it uncomfortable? Yes. Does it help us grow? Yes, absolutely. Based on what you shared, I think the following phrase might resonate with you: "Short-term discomfort for long-term growth."

I believe recording yourself will become a bigger deal the longer you wait for ideal circumstances. Just do it. Even if it's just for your own review, you'll gain so much from it.

I just think of it as thinking, thought everyone thinks like this but I feel like a walking fractal sometimes. Kind of a freak…

Easy to get lost in the bubbles, so pretty each one. Then I feel guilty for looking.
It’s ok, giving myself a hug, back to the path, a step, another…(mostly just talking to myself here…but writing it out, so helpful…)

Maestro(s) always points out the shortest path out of compassion for other learners, not ego. That is what Tomo has done over a lifetime. Wow powerful practice! I’m here because I already went down those other roads.

I found it when I started college in the book racks while I was procrastinating.
Could not read it.
Then I wondered if it was even written in English…so I used statistics to write a small piece of code to find out. Every natural language has a unique proportion of vowels to consonants. Code scanned in the text, counted the number of each, and spit out the result. So simple. That book is in English.
Anyway, still can’t read it.
