Hi everyone. Here's my struggle: I'm ok at hybrid picking when all my fingers AND the pick are upstrumming. I can get even volume that way. But when I try to downpick and pluck upward with my other fingers, the pick is always WAY louder than my fingers. I find it so hard to get even volume when the pick is going one direction while my picking fingers are going the other. Any hints for success? It's so frustrating. Thanks in advance :)
Hi Aaron,
I noticed, when hybrid picking, the pick sound (vs finger sound) was less prominent when I started using the Tomo celluloid picks.
I got mine here.

You can get them here too, I think.

Thank you for sharing this topic!
How's your alternate picking technique in general?
How about you can play things with slower tempo and play it simple way?
Do you use your amp when you are practicing this technique?
You can practice your finger picking volume and your pick volume control.

Thank you, Tomo. My alternate picking is solid. I just can’t seem to get volume balance between my pick and fingers. I do a fair amount of fingerpicking when i play acoustic (James Taylor type stuff), so I’m no stranger to that technique. The art of blending pick with fingers at the same time is new to me. I’ll keep working at it…and remember your mantra 😬.
You're very welcome Aaron. That's great! Then you can work on picking volume & your picking dynamics. Turn up your amp a little louder, more treblem less bass and no effects. Keep working! Even acoustic... plug into an amp so you can hear more details!
