Tomo Fujita Guitar Wisdom

Mr. Fujita, as you know I am working on picking without resting my pinky and ring finger on the pick guard, floating above the strings. I am going through the Blues section of the Guitar Wisdom book and working on the basic blues bassline shuffle. I find that because I am floating above the strings with my picking hand that I often lose track of where I am and hit the incorrect string quite often.

I am sure that this is part of the learning process, but I was wondering if you had any instructions for me on how to improve this?

Practice only one pattern for a while (6th string root) so you will get to know this pattern more.
Then practice same fingering pattern but from 5th string root. Super slow so that you have enough time to think and feel the bassline.

I am practicing Basic Blues Bassline Shuffle, R37, and Chromatic 1234, 1212 everyday. Is this okay? Or is this too much at once? I just love the guitar and hear the sounds, so I cannot help myself. LOL.

You can make it slower and simple... picking is all down stroke.

So much to learn. So much wisdom in all you say. Your site is named correctly! I see great value in going slower, in learning patience. I will make adjustments to palm muting, begin using my pinky finger, and go slower, instituting the shuffle rhythm. I am very excited. Thank you again.
