Hey,
I few days ago I asked about my Kemper and decided that a need a tube amp again. As Tomo suggested in his book, I hastily decided to buy a blues junior. But I think there are other options too. And now I feel trapped in finding the "perfect" amp to replace my digital device.
A blues Jr. is about 500 bucks and easy to buy/ sell. So there is no risk. But I also like the idea of getting a small vintage amp. For about 700 there are champs from the late 70s available. With some patience i could also get a Musicmaster Bass amp from the late 70s. It is also possible to get a small modern amp like a milkman half pint, which is way more expensive. But also possible. In fact, I have an expensive Fender Custom Shop Strat and Tomo said also, that it`s a good idea to spend at least the same amount of money on your amp.
What do you think? My main goal is to get an amp that supports me getting a better player. But I also like an amp that is nice to play and sounds great on its own. As I mentioned earlier, I do not like having too much gear.
Cheers,
Bjoern
I will throw in my two cents, can’t sleep :)
If I had to start fresh now, I would buy a good Music Master Bass amp.
Play guitar AND play bass!
I’ve looked at and tried the milkman’s half pint, they are super nice but look for a mint used one. I can’t afford a new one.
I spent the last of my money on my amps and guitars hahaha.
My dearests friends said “you’re crazy!” but now one suddenly found he has terminal cancer…he’s kind of on permanent chemo, his son is eighteen now, good boy, so bright, and he has a lovely wife…not-crazy…
But honestly, I believe no one can tell you what feels right, sounds right to you.
Because it’s the truth (truth, not-truth) man. :)
Good advice that no one can tell me what feels good to me.
Thank you for a great "Amp" Thread!
First, go slower so you can learn about "Tube amp"
1) At least "Fender Blues Jr." Not best but least.
2) Practice Amp "Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp
3) Vintage Fender Black Face Amps or Silverface without a master volume.
I think it's better to spend more good $$$ for a great amp if you can.
