Hey friends, watched and took some notes with tea before morning practice.
Now for morning practice!
I am not going to worry about my pu heights haha.
- [ ] pick up height:
* my pu's too low now?, what is optimal height?
- [ ] 2.5 second triad rule:
* if it takes more than 2.5 second to know all triads for a key, think you don't know it, then practice slowly.
- [ ] melody arises from rhythm:
* tapping rhythm,
* singing melody while playing bassline
- [ ] what to tell students who want to learn something "outside" (the norm):
* play everything with triads (then chromaticism, half step up or down) but how to teach outside when student doesn't know (reference chord tones) "inside"? impossible and not helping the student. so must learn inside first.
- [ ] transcribing/creativity:
* it's not important;
* what's important:
"learn exactly what you heard"
* one note different finger is cool!
* "day tripper" creativity on top of playing the blues
* the 7th
* once you know the shape, never play that -- sounds like an exercise
- [ ] what is berklee like now?
* computers
* class is good but if you want to learn details, individually
(1 to 1)
- [ ] what was john mayer learning?
* foundations:
* picking rough so practice chrom scale
* berklee duet (sea to sea?)
* blues shuffle
* amp settings no reverb, high treble
* a lot of R 3 7 / R 7 3 blues shuffle exercise,
* triads,
* dynamics (so reverb is not triggered
* guitar and amp is one unit!
not separate
- [ ] harmony:
* if you can transcribe pop, the basics you have a good start
- [ ] new book:
* described with old book so interesting translation of culture is difficult.
* reprinted 20x!!
* thank you sammi for reorg and translation!!
