so I came across a video where I heard the jazz guitarist jimmy bruno saying that
All chords fall under 3 main categories , they're either :
1. major
2. minor
3. dominant
I really liked that , it makes things easier thinking of a chord as functioning as either a major or a minor or a dominant function.
After giving it some thought it really makes sense , just one exception and that is suspended chords, the sus2 and sus4 chords , because of the suspended 3rd that makes them neither a major or a minor chord
When I analyse the intervals in the sus chords ,the interval are all part of the major scale so am I correct in saying that sus chords would also be put into the category of "major chords " in this case
would love to hear any insights on this.
I like this concept because it simplifies chords by their core function , then its just a matter of flavour or choice as to which chord we chose when playing jazz or whatever style sues these kinds of chords???
Yes! I think that way. Simple way is always better! Thank you for sharing.
I love Sus2.... no 3rd so ... My song Just Funky chord! (Major or minor)
Sus4 is more Dom7 group. Case by case.

Thank you senseiThats interesting about the sus4 been more dominant . Am i also correct in saying the sus2 and sus4 chords are inversions of each other???
Very similar to the way that c6 is inversion of minor 7 chords and half dim is inversion minor 6 chords because of relative minor relationship?
