Ok - jumping back on this thread. I saw a post elsewhere from Kurt on where he's at on his personal Leavitt commitment. I didn't think I'd been doing it as long, but I think I might be close. Today is day 72. But I just started page 14-15 lesson. I like Tomo's video for this - I definitely agree about the muting - my single note playing is getting so much better just from these sight-reading lessons. Plus chromatic exercises, of course. Here is my question:
I try to stay on a lesson until I can play cleanly. However, I start getting really clean when I have "learned the song." The problem is, I don't want to learn the song, I want to learn to sight-read. So that's my signal to move on. Even if I don't have the exercises really clean, If I notice that I no longer need to look at the sheet music (i.e. I have memorized), I move to the next lesson. Is this the right approach?
Great job Clay.
I'm on Day 75. I want to go to 1000 :-)
I think it is great that the reading gets easier and feels like we memorized it. We are still reading.
I read this Wisdom that Tomo replied to someone on YouTube.
I realized I need to record myself more and have my acoustic plugged in so I can hear noise.
I'm so happy to have both books and GW lessons to work and have fun with.

After you practice any section of method book. Did you record yourself and check your noise issues etc? I have entire book lessons on my Guitar Wisdom. Not each one but some etudes you need to stay there for a week or more. Great book to build your techniques. Did you check my new book Guitar Wisdom?
You need an amp to hear string/finger noises. Without an amp... not great for improving techniques. iPhone is good. You only need 5-10 minutes for one technique so if you have 30 minutes you can practice a lot. My book is more for reading about concepts. 8 different chapters. You need 10-15 minutes a day for Method book. Practice everyday for 90 days straight! Don't wait! That's not great way! You need to practice 2-3 items everyday. Other two parts will help your Method Book study!
Thank you Clay for revisiting this thread! Great timing! Yes1 Kurt has been working on 90 days own challenge! Great job on your 72 days! I love that book! I used to stay one section for a long time so that my muting technique will improve! That's okay to learn songs... I used this book for more technique cleaner! Don't worry! Later you can use same section and can play different positions! Many ideas around this book! Everything is up to you. I prefer to get cleaner playing.

Thank you Kurt for sharing your side. Yes! You are right Even you almost know that song... but still reading it! Don't worry! Still you are looking at this book... not the fretboard! Amazing! your 75th day! I use my acoustic and plug into an amp so I can hear more noises so loud and clear! Good job! Method book & GW lessons. Thank you so much! I used to record each section so that I can hear all the details. Especially those duets. I used to record both parts then I will play other parts with that recording. Fun to do! Thank you for sharing my words!

So helpful, Kurt! I'll have to copy and paste those notes to save as a reminder.
