Hi , Everyone !
I’m practicing the book , Modern Method For Guitar Volume 1 . Now I'm on page 6 & 7 , Sea to Sea duet.

And I will practice this part for three weeks , each day about 15 minutes .
I will record 2 ~ 3 minutes of my daily practice on my phone , and read my notes before practicing , to remind myself of practice standers.

In this post , I will share my feelings and process during the practice .

Day 1
I practiced with acoustic guitar , respectively practice guitar 1 and guitar 2 , a slow one .
Then I use electric guitar practice until eighth bar .

No metronome .
Really focus on palm muting.
Part of chord , play super slow.

With acoustic guitar and electric guitar , feel magical , The same song but is two different senses .
Because need to pay attention to palm muting , posture is so important !

At my fist practice this song with the electric guitar today , focus on palm muting really help me change the posture to carry electric guitar with strap .

Elbow and body really need more stable .Like posture is straight , elbow stay with guitar .
Focus on palm muting make me find my elbow gets lazy sometimes , then , palm muting will lose effectiveness
So working exercise is importance!

Whether it's electric guitar or acoustic guitar , some situation is happened:

· when I palm muting with bottom string , with the chords , palm always easy to move , it also muting the strings that need to be played .

· In the process of muting the fourth bar before the fifth bar , quick to palm muting . When ' quick ' , raise my palm , then I will make string noise with my palm , I think I should to do this part more slow , quick I can't control my palm now.

Ps : In the process of postural transition , I noticed my strap have been buckled upside down , The patterned side faces the guitar , feel more comfortable ?

Day 2
No noise , Focus on palm muting .
Chords part play super slow.
Read each notes.

Play acoustic guitar with first and second guitar once each .
Electric guitar about first guitar's twelfth bar.

One of the big feel is today I was adjust the elbow position on my acoustic guitar , previous position is more pressure for me , so that the pick range is close to the end of the fretboard , and elbow is holding tightly with guitar , sometimes no feel comfortable ,like some numb feeling . But today I extended my elbow back a bit , feel more comfortable , the function of the elbow has not diminished , surprise!

I 've always thought that the more elbow I use , the better . Or in that way , I can hold guitar better .
But now I think : More is not always good , suits is good !
Just like it's good to use elbows in a way that suits you .
Be kind to myself !:) So important thing!

With electric guitar , I raised the straps a bit .
Chords part , the picks really easy to hit the front pickup . I decided to include the "picking soft" in note.
And palm muting is nothing change , electric guitar so sensitive and amp is so loud , if I want have no noise , and use palm muting, slow seems is a good way . :)

Elbow position on acoustic should be really relaxed.

Electric, playing chord part, should use softer picking
so that when it's time to play single note, more better balance.

Hi jiayang! I just read this thread and love what you’re doing. Your commitment and dedication is inspiring for so many. At the moment I’m spending so much time rehabbing my hand. (Three hours a day!) I’m finding it difficult to have much time to play guitar. But everyone in the forum is sharing what they’re doing and it’s so much different than before the November challenge!

I’m so glad that people are posting videos and sharing their personal journeys and insights. And Tomo is right there with us, which is so great. I’ve missed a few threads in just two days! Since the November challenge there is more interaction between forum members now. This is so great! For me, it’s going to be about 30 days before this intense part of my rehab softens a bit. I will keep track of everyone’s journey as best I can. In the meantime, keep on trucking!

Day 3 & 4
Notes:
Focus on palm muting .
Elbow need relax to use .
Electric guitar need picking soft .
Ps:First practice acoustic guitar , second practice electric guitar.

These day I have meet some little bit tricky thing :)

·The thumb mute situation appears!
One thing is , When playing a chord related with A-string note , I can use thumb muting lower E-string.
And I need be careful not to put the thumb too far forward during this period.

When play the chord is not contain with A-string's note , then exchange muting technique to palm muting .

Exchange seems not easy . When I saw the score showing these chords , I'll change my movements ,tricky thing :).
Ps: It really needs to be done slowly.

·I easy to make noise when I left my muting palm .

·In Guitar 2 , first bar , first beat note"C" in B-string , the index finger is also easy to make noise when it left .

~In Guitar 1 , 16th bar , first beat to second beat of the palm muting really not easy to do . My problem is , G string , I can't move my palm well enough to mute the G string, then the G string will sustain , making some noise .

Think I can watch the lesson , feel these details.

Day 5 & 6
Compiled some notes: ( Left is foundation note , Right is learning ’s note)
No Noise. Know each muting occurs position.

Really read every notes. When play the aim string is lower then 4th string , use left hand thumb mute

Focus on muting technique. Don't worry about dynamic , just play every note
clear and muting clean.

Play slowly. Also need use left hand 1st finger to muting.

Elbow needs relax

Electric guitar , picking soft.

Acoustic and electric guitar both practice at 16bar ( guitar 1 & 2)

·The finger can mute different strings .
In the second guitar, 2 bar . When entry the 2nd beat E note , the previous beat open string's note G is still ringing , one idea come from chromatic scale practice , can use second finger muting G string at same time can touch the 2nd beat E note.

·picking can muting , too!?
Second guitar , 2nd bar , 3rd and 4th beat . When entry the fourth beat , pick can muting the same string's last note F, and play D note . Seems like two things happened at the same time .

·The palm can moving to muting .
In second guitar , palm is always moving to muting and coordinate with left finger .

·16 bar 's muting technique
When 1st beat entry the 2nd beat . In chord E G C is end ,I have two problem : when palm need muting E and G notes ,palm can't mute G . Second problem is , when 1st finger need to slightly touch to mute C note ( B string ) , always unable to lift in time ,so the next beat note B can't ringing.

·Truly to read each note is so essential ,because in this way , I clearly know which string my pick is going to , and what my palm and finger should do.

One tips from acoustic guitar : It's easily to make some finger touch string 's noise when shift finger (especially In Guitar 1, Chords exchange )

Another one tips from electric guitar : When use strap to carry the electric guitar , really important to keep body's relax , and keep guitar stable , because the electric guitar 's string is really easy to change the tune .

Don't worry :) Don expect too fast :)

Great job! These notes are really helpful. I still want to get this book on paper instead of just my digital iPad version. I finally started using my little ditto looper thing to try to play both parts in a row and then play over the top of them with the opposite part. I've done it on the One Two Three Four duet coming up in a few pages. Now I'm going back to Sea to Sea. Reviewing. Slowing down. Growing by going back somehow.
