Hello everyone,
I’ve been working on the Bb blues etude for a couple days now and it’s working wonders on my ears and fretboard visualization.
I’m using a PRS Silver Sky
I have a few questions.
Should I be practicing with flat picking technique or a slight angle for the etude? Both?
I’m also learning the strum pattern to St. Patrick’s day by John Mayer and I notice the pick scraping against the strings feels a bit too loud. I believe he used an acoustic for this song but I don’t have one at the moment.
How can I minimize strumming noise? Where should I be aiming my pick? On the last fret of the neck or in between the last fret and the neck pick up? Somewhere else?
Wishing everyone the best!
Brandon
Hi Brandon,
Thanks for asking this great question.
Basically I use flat angle to the strings. Maybe slightly angle here and there.
You just don't want to hear any pick sound.
Great guitar!
Use the middle pickup so you can hear your picking noise much better.
Do not roll off your guitar tone. Full all the way!
You need to practice a lot of R 3 7 swing groove! That was one of main lesson things that John really have worked on. You need a solid foundation before any songs!
Don'r imitate John... do more foundation so that you will have more freedom!
Thank you.
