Hi Tomo and GW folks!
I have been working on doing the stress and metronome with clapping lesson for some time now (as you all know I love to work on things for a long time!) and I am at a good place for stress I think and can add stress to any 16th notes in 4/4 timing.
Now, what is some next steps to make this more practical? Clapping is great but we play on a guitar with picks. So, Tomo, have you thought of making some intermediate/advanced technique videos for GW? I think that would be pretty cool.
In the meantime (and also to work on using a pick as I'm more comfortable with fingerstyle) I've decided to move away from clapping to do stress work with a pick on the open G string. So I have recently started doing 1/4 note stress on 1st beat, then second, etc. Doing 1/8 notes and adding stress to every possibility, with triplets and finally with 1/16 notes (too scared to move beyond that like making 5 equally timed notes in a 4 beat measure as some jazz players do).
I've also started to do dynamics and working on controlling the volume, too. Like doing super quiet (don't know all the Italian names for them), medium quiet, normal, loud, very loud as well with picking.
So, Tomo, would this be a good place to move to now that I feel comfortable with adding stress while clapping using a metronome? And as asked earlier, any thoughts on making intermediate/advanced technique videos (i.e. artificial harmonics, unison bends, etc.)?
Hope you are having a good day! All the best teacher :)
Thank you Michael!
Good job!
Can you do your 16th accent with a metronome on 2 & 4?
Or a little faster etc? Can you accent any notes?
Definitely! More lesson materials. Little by little I am working on.
I think we need more solid foundation techniques which can use for advanced techniques.
You still can do many variations on 8th notes, 16th notes with accent.
Metronome on 2 & 4.
For dynamics, try to play normal to soft and beyond!
Play melody and use these dynamics.
Yes! Please use a metronome!
Play R 3 7 Swing Groove with a metronome then you can learn many songs at Jazz Standard section.
I can make additional exercises on GW secret videos! You are a great student / a great leaner!
Thank you.
Tomo
Here we go!
Hope you enjoy this!
Thank you.
Tomo
Nice! Thanks! I will definitely start adding this as time goes on. Cheers!
With respect to your reply, I haven't done the taking the 2nd and 4th beat away from the metronome but that is a goal I will work on for sure to internalize the rhythm.
Thanks again! Awesome as usual! :)
My pleasure! Thanks for your post! This gives people a great inspiration!
Great! Then... try to use a metronome on 2 & 4... that could be advanced technique.
Thank you.
Tomo
And from studying blues I learned the 2 and 4 back beat is can be emphasized at times for rhythmic reasons. Could be fun to do both! :)
Have a great day!! :)
