Hi Tomo,
When applying your music theory lessons, some questions came up. I'm wondering how specific modes relate to specific scales.
Some examples of my confusion.
1) I figured out by ear that Amy Winehouse's song 'Back to Black' was written in D Aeolian mode. If i trace this scale back to the F major scale, there is a problem, because the chords for this song are: Dm, G, Bb and A. Shouldn't A and G be minor, if we're rolling with the F major scale?
2) Also, when studying your lesson ''BL20 A Blues Shuffle + Bass Line'' I can't figure out if this is a major blues or a minor blues (because of the minor 7th chord in the base chord) or how to understand this.
Could you please explain, or make a video in which you explain more about general music theory.
In any case: many thanks. You are appreciated.
Ster
Thank you so much for posting this thread,
Please check Essential Theory Section.
Did you watch Essential Theory ET1 to ET16 so far?
Some songs has non diatonic chords so basic theory can apply most part and a few parts are outside of basic diatonic harmony.
Bass line has a few different patterns.
R 8 b7 5 could apply to minor or Major (Dom) but most this bass line for Major / Dom blues.
Please listen Earl Hooker / Two Bugs and a roach album. Let me know how you feel about this blues album.
Thank you.
Tomo
And yes, I will listen to that album and let you know what I think :)
Thank you!
Tomo
I have one more question.
When you watched ''BL20 A Blues Shuffle + Bass Line'' lesson,
Did you watch from the beginning to the end of this lesson.
How many times did you watch this lesson or any other lessons.
Thank you.
Tomo
I watched this lesson 3 timss, beginning to end. And then started practising.
Your lesson about how triads worked, I watched at least 5 times. Always trying to understand the logic, and then replicating it. And then later I would return to see if i did not miss anything.
Yes I get what you're saying about you teaching differently from other teachers. I will take that to heart, listen to what you're saying and start watching more to understand tou better.
Thank you!
