Hello all
Just a question re practising triads. Is it best to learn, for example, the C major triad and it's two inversions on all the string sets first (i.e. 12 shapes) or to learn all the major triads and their inversions for the twelve notes on each string set first? In other words, should I aim to master the C first before venturing into other notes? I ask because in Tomo's first video, he talks about and demonstrates triads other than C.

Hi Ben. I am currently re watching and re-learjing the triads myself! I learned all the shapes and that helped me locate myself in the fretboard learn the notes and improve my technique by alot! But I hit the wall so i need to go deeper! Things that i have this time in mind from the first video.

1) play the triad and try to listen every note! Especially the middle one is difficult! But to pick up the bass note is very important for transcribe in my understanding!
2) try to hear the colour of scale degrees what feeling sound has the major 3rd can i hear it and sing it when i play any inversion!
3)try sing do mi sol, mi sol do, sol do mi! Try in one string and thing about distance intervals.
4)after all that hear the triad inversion as a haul and try to be familiar with the sound and feeling of each one!
5)try to learn the pentatonic shapes around each triad!

All this even for the 3 first triad of C want time to really learn and understand! For sure you can progress and work in parallel with this and understand better location notes and fretboard.

I am sure our professor will give us the direction and wisdom that we need to progress!

Hi Ben. All the advice from Markos is excellent. Tomo also suggests spending time every day with a chord progression of triads. Example: C triad in all 3 inversions (root, 1st inversion, 2nd inversion), then perhaps the four chord (F major in all three inversions), and the five chord (G major in 3 inversions). You can play a 12 bar blues progression with the three chords on all four string sets of strings. Endless variations.

Hmmm. It might come down to personal preference. For myself, I think I would first learn C, F, and G on the first 3 strings, then move the whole operation to the next 3-string set.

Such great advice! Triads and the art of learning them like Tomo said "don't rush" is the key to my learning Triads. Thank you Tomo🙏

I have only seen or heard about Tomo’s advice here! Let your ears find your Triads vs just the shape. It really does give you more freedom when improvising or soloing. Bc we follow our ears when play and not so much theory. HUGE difference
