Tomo, I just want to start by thanking you for this course. It really feels like a deep and meaningful way to learn guitar, far beyond the superficial approach many teachers take. You are also incredibly inspiring and come across as an optimistic, fun, and genuinely good person. I really appreciate that.
I'm currently working through the lessons and have reached the Essential Music Theory section, specifically the one on major triads. I've been playing guitar as a hobby for a few years now, but I never really studied triads before. Although I have a fifth-degree music certificate from a conservatory, and I had music theory classes back then, it has been so long that I do not remember much.
Here is my question: I try to stay focused and attentive during the lessons, and I have now spent three days practicing C major triads. I am not fully comfortable with them yet, but I know the shapes and degrees and can play them "reasonably" well. I understand that I should not wait to fully master them before moving on, since that could take months. My plan is to create a daily routine that includes major triads, move forward with the lessons, and keep adding new material to my daily practice as I go.
Does this approach make sense? Or should I wait until I feel really confident with C major triads before progressing?
Thank you so much for your passion on guitar playing!
We are so happy to have you as a member of Guitar Wisdom community here.
About Triad Inversions. Only 3 notes. Only 3 types.
It seems easy.... but first you need to know all the notes. Names/Intervals as simple Major scale.
Otherwise you need to memorize the fretboard!
Only 3 days so you need to spend at least 2 weeks on one subject to learn deeply.
We are running July Challenge right now.
Topic is Triads! Please take a look.
So please keep working on triads and other topics.
Did you learn One String / One Finger approach?
Stay on One String approach and C triad inversions for a while.
Don't worry about "How Long"
Basic idea is to stay on one topic for a few weeks. Maybe a few months.
Do not rush! Take your time so you will own it!
Thank you.
Tomo
Thank you for the reply!
Yes, I learned the one string approach and I think I am very comfortable with it. I will continue to get more comfortable with the C major triads while still practicing the one string and one finger approach. It makes sense, I have to let it sink in.
I will take a look at the challenges. It seems interesting to do them with the Guitar Wisdom community.
You’re very welcome Eduard!
Good job! One string approach… you want to play Major Scale and 4 petterns (sequencings) without looking at the fretboard. Only use your first finger. Think about name of notes, intervals, singing, ear training… imagine that sound then you play a note. Do not rush this process.
Learn C Major triad inversions on all set of strings. 123/234/345/456
Turn your amp a little louder. More treble, less bass, no reverb.
Your guiar volume never turn to full 10. Keep it around 7-8. Tone is always full.
This way you can work on techniques. No finger noise. No pret nouse. No sliding noise.
Please a take a look July Chalenge and read all the comments.
You can learn so much about how to learn guitar proper ways.
The GW community is so beautiful!
I am so grateful!
