Hey Tomo and GW gang:
Been a while since I posted anything but I have been practicing a bunch.
I’ve been working on a few songs:
Crossroads by Cream
Mary Had a Little Lamb by SRV
Very humbling songs, especially the 2nd…so much technique, up strokes, palm muting, slides, hammer ons and pull offs.
A few months ago I couldn’t do any so it is progress for sure, but like Mark Knopfler sang with Dire straits it seems the end game of being able to play clean is “so far away from me”.
Anyhow I hope to post more…hope you are all well!
God bless!
Thank you Chris for sharing your video!
Yes! Tough solo to play it well. Good job learning those riffs and solo!
In order to play this solo well... a few things you can prepare around this solo.
1) Chord progressions & Bass line.
You can play chord progression with simple chords and you can work on your time feel & use lighter left hand touch.
You can play simple bassline so you can keep in time playing bassline.
2) Left hand thumb position.
You can work on that. Please follow July Challenge for that. Left hand muting. Softer picking, softer left hand touch. And more!
3) Practice chromatic scale 1234 & 1212 so your fingers can move freely without too much pressure.
Please watch this 10 more times and use your note book so you can write some notes on your note book.
Keep body motion with a tempo while you are playing.
Tomo
Thank you Tomo! I will apply that feedback.
So I did a little research…
For Mary Had a Little Lamb, it’s 12 Bar Blues
E7 | E7 | E7 | E7
A7 | A7 | E7 | E7
B7 | A7 | E7 | E7
So 1 1 1 1 / 4 4 1 1 / 5 4 1 1?
Ok, so I see your point on Thumb position from July Challenge, and I will make that adjustment.
Forgive me, what is the 1212, I do understand the 1234 Chromatic exercise and do that to a metronome almost daily.
Have not heard this one in a long time Chris, key sounds right for SRV. Might be ending in 5415.? . Maybe review the blues progressions in R37 for similar approach.
This is new and explains why no Metronome with chromatics 1234 & 1212 - johno
