Excellent job Matt! Thank you!

Always forget Stevie is a half step flat.
Here's Freddie's live version of Hideaway on "The Beat!" 1960's TV show.
Gatemouth Brown leading the backing band too!~ Yay!
Kurt
Nice find Kurt. Freddy makes that guitar look small, sweet 335. Easy to hear all the sections clearly. Fancy wild picking too. Thank you!! - johno
Thank you Kurt for sharing! Great Freddie King video!
Tomo
Thank you, Matt, for starting this thread. We look forward to seeing some Hide Away Challenge posts!
GM
Thank you Matt. I am in. I like this song.

Thank you Eiji for sharing this video. I totally forgot about this video.

I'm doing my best to NOT watch this video. I'm trying to figure it out by ear.
Best hideaway lesson!! The Chord, One cool Gibson, and little bit of Funk!!
Thanks for finding this johno!
Kurt
Thank you Johno for sharing this video! I almost forgot this video!

Tomo also breaks down the Freddie King and Clapton approaches to the first chorus in FB E Blues Soloing Ideas - Major and minor Pentatonic https://tomovhxtv.vhx.tv/foundation-core-music-lessons/videos/fb-e-blues-soloing-ideas-major-and-minor-pentatonic
Thank you Andy for sharing GW lesson video.
Tomo
This is a good one Andy, thank you. Nice details on intervals and turn around.
Here is a Hideaway version release 2025. High energy version with modern production sounds. Picked up this CD in April and yeah, there are some fun guitar blues jams. Learning more about this song with every artists take. Thanks Matt for the challenge. It will be a while for me, yet all kinds of fun!! - johno
Cool John! Do you know who the soloists were for this track?
Liner notes have Author Neilson on Hideaway.
Let's get this party started!
This video is my progress after about a week on the first shuffle chorus and the first melody chorus. So many things to clean up and work on! Here are couple of things I learned from this recording (and many others I did while practicing this):
- Pick volume — As I play, I feel like I'm barley holding the pick and it sounds soft and gentle. But when I listen to the recording it sounds like I'm hitting the strings hard. Maybe that's because I turned the amp volume up, but I am still working on lighter picking.
- E to A on shuffle — One of the biggest challenges for me is moving cleanly from the E to A chord during the shuffle. I'm still not there but I've gotten better over the week. (I also routinely flub the pinky stretch on the B chord, as I did on this recording, but I've done better in others by moving my thumb back first).
- Metronome - I practiced without the metronome too, but I found that I would rush a lot (you can hear it in this video). The metronome (set to 57 in this one, I think) is helping me hold back.
Bravo Andy!
That is amazing progress after only a week!
Sounded cool and bluesy. That is really an accomplishment to be proud of.
Thanks for sharing your progress.

Day 120 of 1095 straight days sight reading
Thank you Kurt for encouragement here! Andy did a fantastic job for playing E shuffle groove and Hideaway melody. Super duper good! I am so grateful to hear this from Andy! I am so happy!
Be proud to yourself for endless sight-reading effort! This forum really has been giving me so much inspiration and I practice guitar everyday!
Tomo
Thank you Andy for sharing this video! I love it! It sounds so good! I love this groove (rhythm guitar) so much! Good job on melody too! This part is very hard. During this melody, you want to play softer rhythm guitar! So this part, you want to practice without a metronome. So good!
Tomo
Good stuff, Andy! Really impressed you got the melody down. Sounds great.
andy, that was awesome, and inspiring!
i wanted to hear more.
also, i am really glad no one was sacrificed. :)

I've been away from my guitar for a week or so, but planning to dive back into this deep. I'm almost through the first 12 bars. I'm really trying to not watch any lessons on this and figure it out by ear.
Thank you Matt! Anytime! Glad to hear from you here! Good job!
Tomo
Take your time, Matt! We will be here when you're ready to share more :)
Awesome playing, Andy! Thanks for sharing your recording and notes with us. I find your list very helpful and easy to understand what you notice/what you're working on.
Pick volume - Check out this thread https://tomovhxtv.vhx.tv/forums/general/76045-picking-volume
Thank you Sammi for encouragement and sharing this lesson.
Tomo
Getting bluesy there Andy :) thank you for sharing. After watching all videos in this thread, there are several options to try with speed all over the place. I like how you kept this tune true to form and at your pace. Great progress for one week, this is like a happy blues song :) - johno
My Christmas Eve attempt at Hideaway on my 1979 Gibson ES 347 aka my "Black Beauty".
Lots of fun to keep working on this.
Happy Holidays!
Kurt

Incredible performance, Kurt. I love how relaxed your playing is, and how you make the song your own. Definitely an aspirational example for me and I'm sure many others!
BRILLIANT!
Very nicely done . Great tone too and a nice ride (guitar). Inspiring. Not there yet so appreciate you sharing that.
Lovely performance Kurt! I love it! Sweet tone from that guitar! Good job! Please enjoy!
