I made this video today. Super Simple guitar! One pickup guitar! Epiphone SG Junior YUNGBLUD model! I put a Grinning Dog P90 Pickup in one of these guitars. Can you ear the difference?
I played C blues then I played C G Am F (1 5 6m 4) Chords / Triads.... then I played some spread triads.... so I played too much! So it's really hard to decide a good title of this video.
Thank you for watching!
Tomo
That was really super-duper fun to hear Tomo! Great idea to score two while you can.
Thanks also for the early access to the video.
Love the country bending licks and the triad examples for that fun progression.
I think the title is really good. I guess you can mention the comparison of the stock P90 vs. the Grinning Dog P90 pickup in the description.
I like the Grinning Dog smoothness a little more but would be happy with the stock P90.
Nice that the guitar is at a lower price point and people could afford to upgrade the pickup if they want.
Once again, your playing and the Beth reverb are Stars- makes it all sound so amazing.
I'm so glad we did the July challenge; The Do Mi So, Mi So Do, So Do Mi of the triads is just easy to name now.
Thank you for sharing your playing, cool guitars and most of all, helping us have more fun with the guitar!
Hope you have a great Holiday!
Kurt
Thank you Kurt for watching this new video for my YouTube Channel. Your reaction is so valuable for me. So happy to hear that! Yes! That country bend style that very popular but some people don't know how to play it like that. Good bending lick! Yes! I will mention about the comparison of the stock P90 vs. the Grinning Dog p90 pickup in the description. Thank you! Yes. This guitar is at a lower price and these guitars are pretty good!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Definitely the Beth Reverb is helping my performance! Good job on triads! It's very easy to hear Do Mi So / Mi So Do / So Do Mi ...once you learn intervals and those sounds. Very happy to hear that the July Challenge was very helpful. Next video... I am sneak in some "Challenge" things from our forum so you guys can learn something from my new video for my YouTube channel.
My pleasure! Thanks again for your time! I really appreciate it! Great feedback for me. Yes! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Tomp
Thank you for sharing these videos to us first. This is very exciting. I am behind on these. I need to catch up. I am PST in Puyallup WA
I love spread triads you shared. They have such a beautiful sound. As for the guitars the grinning dog pick up sounds so bright. I thought it had too much bright reverb sound/noise coming from it. At least on the recording. Perhaps if I was holding and playing I may have fell in love with the sparkle.
This was great to watch! As far as the pickups go, I couldn't really hear too much difference when you were playing single notes, but when you started with the triads/chords, the Grinning Dog pickups really came to life. Not great words but the stock pickup seemed a little dull in comparison. More sparkle with the Grinning Dogs.
And I'm going to rip some of the audio starting around 7:30 and I'll be working to steal some of your triad/hendrix style licks!
Thank you Matt for watching! I love to see, feel our members reactions! It is not easy to hear that difference in the video but I can feel something very special with the Grinning Dog pickup tone.
So happy to hear that! Triad Hendrix over 1 5 6m 4 chord changes.
Tomo
Tomo, I have to say that the original pickups sound warmer, but the Grinning Dog pickups sound fuller and brighter to me, and that's what I prefer. I love that sound so much.
Thank you for your feedback! The Grinning Dog Pickups has more "special" feeling!
Tomo
I liked the sound of those GD pickups sounded more interesting to me. I was jumping back and forth to see what I might discern. Sometimes the warmth came through and other times clarity. Those bends are cool sound like a steel guitar or a b-bender I think its called.
Thank you Cruz for your feedback! The Grinning Dog Pickup has more depth, clearity and top end for dynamices. I love bending sound very much!
Tomo
I posted this video today! I think many members are intersted in Fender Muiscmaster Bass Amp. Let me know your feedback. Thank you for watching this video!
Tomo
Fender Musicmaster Bass Amps are amazing! With Celestion speakers comparison!
Have you ever heard Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp? It's very simple amp with one volume & one tone (Only get dark or bright) These amps were for Fender Musicmaster Bass but its a great simple guitar amp! I love it so much! Tubes are two 6V6s and One 12AX7. Speaker is 12 inch speaker so it is easy to change with any other 12 inch speakers.
To your Left to right... 1979 Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp (with Celestion G12-65) & 1978 Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp.(with Celestion 100... only 30 Watt) My guitar is Ibanez AZES and I was using my One Control Beth Reveb. Ibanez TS808 & Vemuram Jan Ray for TF for gain/overdrive tone. How did you like this amp tone?
Nice sounds in both cases. The microphone recording is very clear quality to pick up the nuances of the speakers. Personally, I like the bright punchy club sound on the one on the left, G12-65. The one on the right 30 watt, is a tad rounder not as much bright punch, could be starting to roll over at the high peaks. Both sound excellent with these Sennheiser ear buds. Overall, sounds really clear. The pedal tones are choice, just enough to bring it to another level. It is a hot sound with the Amp, I like it!! - johno
Thank you Johno for watching this video! I use two mics for my YouTube videos. Each speaker has a great own thing.
Tomo
I just made this video today! Slight Night - Must Know 3 Levels. I think someone can learn more!
Thank you for watching it! Gibson Flying V! StewMac VALVE Factory amp head. String Driver 2-12s Cabinet. One Control Beth Reverb (Plate Reverb side)
And NEW GUITAR WISDOM SWEAT SHIRT!
Tomo
Love this 3 levels lesson. Level 3 is new frontier for me.
I have a question at 8:51 to 8:55 if anyone has time :). Three 2 note chord fragments are played that I can't quite follow. What I can see is 3 two note fragments of AC#, BD, C#E.
I'm assuming the intent is chord tones of A, Bm, and A? Thanks for any hints :).
Hi Cruz, yes, those are the notes.
I beleive it is an ascending line in thirds from the A leading into the D major i.e. A, Bm, C#m, D.
Thank you so much JH.
Great question! Basically A triad inversions on top 123 set strings. Just play bottom and top! And added passing tone. So bottom notes are C#/M3, D/4th, E/5th and top notes are A/Root, B/2nd(9th), C#/M3....
Then 5th string: A ...B....C# and 2nd string C#...D....E... sort of inversions. Learn these super slow so you can hear them. Triads!
Tomo
Thank you so much. After reading this and digging into it I started learning for the first time about 10ths :) and how that gives kind of an open piano sound. The example you gave is a cool sound. Guess I'll camp on level two a bit longer and try in other places before seeing what treasure level 3 has. lol :).
I will post this simple version of Silent Night too.
Tomo
Thanks, Tomo! Love the variations to spice it up. Thanks for sharing.
Just beautiful! Silent Night is my favorite Christmas tune and always gets me right in the feels...
Great video Tomo! I remember trying to learn this to play with my father before seeing the challenge and your video and thinking this is triads! Will learn this, great lesson on triads! Thank you ♥️🙏
Thank you jh! Beautiful simple song! My pleasure!
Tomo
Thank you Matt! So happy to hear that! I love this song.
Tomo
Very nice chord choices on that Silent Night. I couldnt watch the 3 versions last night as I had family over. Will it come back? :) Just curious because early yesterday I was working on a version I had made up myself leveraging the voicings I enjoyed. When I saw the post was listed I got very curious about what 3 levels might be :). Anyway all the best thanks for this one. Nice Guitar!
This video is so important for everyone! How to play "Shuffle Blues" Riff. Simple and clean. It is so important to follow "form" and control on muting technique. It is very deep! This one is a great preparation for "Hideaway Challenge"
Thank you.
Need to start playing this style again. This shuffle pattern was one of the first things I tried to learn.
I know I need to work on muting.
What else?
Sound good! Please watch that lesson video "Blues Shuffle Rhythm Guitar) over and over so you will notice one thing at a time!
This part is very importrant for everybody. Play all down stroke for this Shuffle Blues Rhythm Guitar. You want to play simple so that your rhythm guitar skill will improve. Play only simple patterns without any fills. Try to play 6-8 times (repeat). Try that. Let me know.
Tomo
Will do. Thank you.
-LTR
Is this because it is easier to hide bad technique when playing faster and jumbled?
After watching this like 5 times and using AI to dig into why the tension notes work so well, and playing it a few times through, its became obvious to me how important this fundamental progression is. Will have to work in really cleaning up my previous lackluster approach to the rhythm. So easy to just hit play and turn up the gain and start trying to change the world with some lead forgetting the foundation :). Funny I was digging into Mixolydian this morning early so good timing on this Dominant laden turnaround :).
Thanks Tomo.
Thank you Cruz for watching this video many times! So happy to hear that! I love staying with simplicity in general. 7th chord is fun! Please enjoy this rhythm guitar! Triad is so awesome too! Add 7th to Triad.... then you can add 9th and 6th (13th)! My pleasure!
Tomo
While I can play the shuffle easily, I wasn't getting the rich sound in the example. Its seems just R5 is not correct. Whats happening on the D and G strings during I, IV, and V?
Would this be correct? It sounded much richer :)
E5 to E6 =. droning E: E5 (EBE) to E6 (EC#)
A5 to A6. =. droning A: A5 (AEA) to A6(AF#),
B5 to B6. =. droning B: B5 (BF#) to B6 (BG#)
if anyone has time appreciate a hint if it is a x5 to x6 progression including the D and G like shown.
Thank you Cruz. I played it super slow so please check that video. Parts are only R5 and R6. Only two sounds for each chord.
E Blues.
E7 (only 6th and 5th strings)
A7 & B7 (only 5th and 4th strigs)
So you would play a little softer on 6th and 5th strings so that you can play all chords as same volume.
Chord progression:
1 1 1 1
4 4 1 1
5 4 1 1
Only for this Shuffle Blues Rhythm Guitar. Keep it super simple for now. One at a time.
Tomo
Thank you so much. Simplifying helps! Consistent right hand helps :). Betting those 2 Pro Reverbs helps lol. That guitar has a picture on the headstock. Inspiration ?
My pleasure Cruz! This lesson is all about technique so it's better to have less choices. Yes! That Pro Reverb has a great tone! Those are my family members photos (back of the headstock) front side is my wife's photo so when I am on tour.... my family is always with me!
Tomo
Hey Cruz ~
I guess Tomo would need to respond to be 100% sure but I think he’s just playing R5 and R6.
I don’t think he’s playing the octave above.
In general when playing rhythm guitar I think Tomo has stressed leaving space for the other instruments.
But if it’s just you playing and you want to make it sound more full then I guess\ you could include the octave.
My guess is Tomo would say keep it simple and go slowly. Lol.
Thank you Rich! I just explained it for Shuffle Blues Rhythm Guitar lesson video. It's very simple. Anyone can do anything they wish. But this lesson video is only one idea and keep it simple so that you can develope a strong rhythm guitar skill and picking dynamics control.
Yes! Super slow!
Tomo
Thanks Richard for the feedback. You were right on it! lol
