Hey Tomo,
I’ve been working through the Essential Music Theory series for a while now, and I’ve noticed the lessons usually seem to follow this progression:
The one-string approach
Examples of soloing with that sound
The scale played across the 6th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd strings
Just this series alone has really opened my eyes to things I didn’t know before, so first of all, thank you.
As I go through the one-string approach, I’m doing my best to connect that sound to actual soloing. I know you provide chords we can loop and then practice soloing over.
My question is: should we also be trying to transcribe the solos you play in these videos? I was also wondering if it would be helpful to identify where the scale shapes are being used within your solos so it becomes easier for us to apply the ideas to our own playing.
Or should I not focus too much on that right now and instead mainly concentrate on learning the scale itself first?
Thanks!
