Hi Tomo (Sammi and George and all the GW family)!
Haven't posted in a while.
I'm currently moving into three months of working on the rhythmic aspects of guitar playing. So, I'd like some advice on what to work on to improve as a rhythm player.
I am refocusing on R37 swing again. I also started looking at lesson 1 of your funk section as that is pretty cool. I'm also looking at doing James Brown's Payback and Phish's Tweezer to expand my learning of rhythmic ideas. Moreover, with triads and drop 2 voicings along with voice leading ideas doing the Charleston rhythmic pattern (and will add more like reverse Charleston, 2 feel, 4 feel and other rhythmic timing later on) that I noticed you doing on some of your videos such as Blue Monk.
Oh, also working on keep good time with a metronome, and also taking out the beat 1 and 3 to build up my mental timing and even taking away beats 2, 3, 4 and just keeping beat one on the metronome and working through 1/4, 1/8, triplets and 1/16 notes to improve the consistency and accuracy of my timing. I'm trying to lose the metronome sound, when there is one, to really lock in my timing.
Any lessons on GW that might assist me in my next 3 month focus? Just looking for more tips and suggestions.
Btw have we done a R37 swing challenge here yet?
Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your weekends!
Respectfully,
Michael
So happy to hear from you Michael! Focusing on rhythm guitar! That’s what I always love to do!
I still practice R 3 7 Swing Groove as my main rhythm guitar practice time. This can really help my funk rhythm guitar playing. Once you feel comfortable working on R 3 7 Swing Groove. You can do any Funk rhythm guitar playing in GW lessons.
For metronome, keep it simple. You can do every beat for slower songs and you can use 2&4 for funk, rock or any fast tempo songs. And no metronome is so important too. You can search any intersting term so you can find lessons.

Looking forward to your rhythm guitar journey.

Thanks! I'll check out those lessons.
Rhythm guitar is overlooked way too often in guitar. Everyone wants to do a killer solo yet so few can keep time. I hope to not be one of those.
Thanks Tomo! Have a great day!
My pleasure Michael! Rhythm guitar is so deep! I love rhythm guitar very much! I can play rhythm guitar all day long!
Tomo
I did a search of rhythm as you suggested and found over 50 videos. You definitely left me with a lot to go through. Thanks!
P.S. I saw the video on the funky fast triplets. Nice! I've always wanted to learn how you did these. Also, I love the funk videos, they really give great rhythmic patterns to learn! Still need to really solidify the R37 swing but at least I have a target to shoot towards!
GW really has some great videos! Thanks Tomo and team!!
Good job Michael! We have many lesson videos here!
Funky triplet is fun technique to do. That's a great example that you need to prepare more foundation to be able to play that technique. Please enjoy these funk rhythm guitar videos.
Seach " Rhythm Guitar " and " Funk Guitar " You're very welcome! Have a great guitar journey!
