Hi GW team youre doing a great job! i watched the replay on youtube and the topic is related to my question on guitar wisdom book page 81
it said "singing and playing should be an exercise in imagining a phrase in your head and executing it on your guitar. Be careful not to practice singing something you can already play on the guitar.
my question it, can i sing songs pop song or for example a star wars theme then find the notes/phrase on the guitar? i never play on that guitar before.... or it really a phrase that i will create in my head and try to play the notes on the guitar? but the problem i dont have any melody in mind,, the only melody sticks to my head is the one i heard, movies theme/intro and some pop songs
thank you so much, take care always guys!
Hey Benjy! My bad; I didn't see this, and I just replied to your question in the other thread. https://tomovhxtv.vhx.tv/forums/general/78795-gw-livestream-learning-through-listening-6-6
I'll post my reply here too:
Thank you for sharing, Benjy, Rich, and Sunil! It's great to hear your experiences.
In response to your question, Benjy, you don't have to make up a melody - I believe the practice is "Sing First, Then Play," where you have some melody or phrase in your head, you sing it from memory, and think about that melody in terms of notes. Then you try to recreate those notes on your guitar. That process helps you connect what you hear in your head to what you can play through your guitar. It's kind of like Eiji's recent "Magical Moment": he heard/imagined a phrase in his head and brought it to life on his guitar. That's like the end goal of this practice
To be clear, you don't have to make anything up yourself! What you can imagine is something you've heard before...which brings us back to deep listening :) You listen to it many times, internalize it; you can imagine it, sing it, and play it.
I hope that makes sense. Please don't hesitate to ask for more clarification.
