Day 16, clocked in, really trying to be aware of every movement and sound pertaining to this exercise. Keep on trodding.
Good job!
More tiny details you can aware with slower tempo.
Thank you.

A few observations.....
Noticed Tomo's picking hand moving. My hand has been fixed on bottom strings to mute them so in the process of correcting that. I have been following the Leavitt sight reading course and this change is making things easier.
I have added electric guitar to the practice and found muting top strings with my fingers more necessary than acoustic. Changing from acoustic to electric I found my fingers pressing too heavily including the muting fingers, causing the strings to sound when I lifted them, lighter pressure is the cure.
I have recorded myself to check I'm not cheating!
I am trying to transfer all this technique to pieces I am playing and having very positive results. The main points I work on are thumb position, lighter finger pressure and less finger noise.
So I am a very happy man.
Thank you for sharing!
My palm muting is touching and moving so I am not stay in.
Method book one is bad habit killer! LOL! Those few pages really fixed John Mayer's bad picking technique! He didn't like to do that but I pushed. I requested "Don't ask why!"
Electric is more sensitive. That's why when I practice my acoustic guitar, I use my amp so that I can hear all unwanted noise from amp too.
So happy to hear that!
Thank you!

Guitar angel with body & elbow (Guitar Strap length)
This is really good one. just tried this again and wasn’t using elbow enough. See what you mean much easier to play don’t need to use thumb pressure much or at all if you do this
Thank you!
Yes!
This way, you use less pressure from your left hand.
Tomo
Chromatic scale going up.... thumb movement
Thank you for the advice Tomo, this is helpful in both videos. This foundation technique has focused my practice in a very positive way with everyday guitar. Thank you, johno
You're very welcome!
Glad to be helpful!
My job is to make people happy!
Thank you.
Tomo
Day 16!
Today I worked on pick position, making sure to pick each note close to the first pickup and not picking too aggressively. I also worked on thumb position.
Thank you,
Max
Thank you so much!
Good job!
Yes, near the front pick
Pick normal to soft...so if you are not using amp then you cannot hear your picking sound at all!
You're very welcome!
Thank you.

Week 3|Day 16
Much better today than yesterday's disaster. No metronome. I focused on going slowly, sustaining each note, and moving my thumb smoothly along the back of the neck, using Tomo's video as a model.

Thank you for sharing!
Same to anyone's home... always some unexpected thing happened ....
No metronome is good! Slow, super slow, insanely slow!
Thanks for watching.
Thank you.
Tomo
Day 16 Tomo thank you for the additional videos. What was particularly helpful for me was how you emphasized the right elbow as a fulcrum which de-emphasizes the left hand pressure. So I noticed this and how it affected my left hand. I felt some fatigue, not in the thumb at all, but a bit more in the fingers which I found interesting, like using muscles I hadn't used as much. Overall, it was a beneficial 10 minutes of focused practice noticing the thumb more relaxed and lighter overall on the neck. Thanks!
You're very welcome! My pleasure! Yes! My elbow is playing those chords! This way my left hand is not working alone.
Most self-taught player's problem is that focus too much on what notes to play!
Not so much how to use all these body parts to harmonize together creating less work!
I have taught 31 years at Berklee College Of Music and 4 years as a student. I have seen many great & bad examples of guitar players from all over the world - they taught me my way!
My approach is not coming from a great method book or one teacher's approach!
Life time experiences! I am so happy to share my knowledges & my experiences to you!
Thank you.
Tomo
Day 16 Complete!
I echo Ken’s sentiment on the supplemental videos. I found the guitar angle video to be very insightful. It was extremely helpful to explore this approach and attempt this technique. It will definitely take a good deal of practice to develop this but it is amazing what this does for left hand tension. I laughed out loud at the comment about being able to play without your thumb but not your elbow…that certainly underscores the importance.
I will say that it was surprisingly difficult to combine ascending and descending lines, particularly the transition between the two, but the challenge has helped me lean into this and see it as sn opportunity to grow!
Best,
Erik
Thank you for sharing! Those extra videos are so easy to make! No preparation required!
Just press on & off! Guitar is my life! Guitar angle, right hand elbow, right side body, strap height.... will affect your left hand work. I am so glad that Sammi suggested to do this "The 30 days November Challenge" Plus, George, Sammi and I are doing our Monday meeting every week.... talking how to make TFGW better place! I am so lucky to work work George & Sammi! And you guys are so awesome! I don't need my left hand thumb than my right elbow! True!
Thanks for your honest feedback.
When you see someone is showing you simple chromatic... most people think it's easy and
they would do easy way.... so it's not effective. That's why when people watch free YouTube for 10,000 hours.... never work! Just entertainment!
Thank you!
Tomo
Day 17
According to Tomo‘s video about adjustment of thumb position during ascending process, I found my thumb relaxed but seemed completely wrong.
It's like it doesn't adjust. When I shift the next position, my thumb will have a big range move.Other times the thumb would not move ,or I might unconsciously change the position of my thumb. And the left elbow does not adjust with the thumb at all.(I noticed in the video that your left elbow adjust with your thumb)
Good to find this out, thanks Tomo, the video was very helpful.
Maybe it's time for me to stop practicing like I used to.Because I'm little confused about my stiff movements right now.
I think it has something to do with my bad habits, but I don't know what it is.But I knew I wanted to be better.
Please Tomo to give me some advice, thank you very much, sir.·
Thank you for sharing your thought.
Your thumb is touching the neck too deep! You need to feel as if there is a paper between your thumb and the neck. (Always moving, touching and releasing)
Please watch those videos many times and learn those without words.
Using words tends to limit the idea.
My body, my elbow, my thumb.... are balancing and never press anything!
Plus using a strap is a huge!
Thanks for noticing. I really felt that this Challenge brought us much deeper in guitar learning.
Anyone can show how to play (YouTube) but it's so hard to teach how to learn proper way.
Do everything so slow, and short period time so you can review and fix it.
Learning guitar is all about fixing bad habits.
Thank you.
Tomo
Thank you for your instruction!
How valuable and important it is for people to learn in a proper way!
Thanks to Guitar Wisdom for starting everything.
You're very welcome! I love working on my Guitar Wisdom lesson videos!
My job is to make people happy with my guitar! I can't thank enough!
Thank you.
Tomo
Day 17 week 3 focusing on descending. Finger placement while keeping tempo still a challenge. Slowing it down to get finger placement correct. This where I need to develop some muscle memory.
Have a great Sunday everybody. Even though this is work, it’s calming and a great way to start a Sunday.
Blessings,
Bryon Mondok
Laconi, New Hampshire
Good job!
Slow is good!
Have a great Sunday!
Thank you.
Tomo
Week 3, day 17
Notes:
• Interesting how the thumb (which never touches the fretboard) has such an impact on the fingers (that do touch the fretboard).
• Finger noise is worse on the lower frets, perhaps because they’re spaced further apart?
• It’s so important to identify weaknesses.
Thanks so much.
Good job!
Very lightly touch and not touch (thumb)
That case, you can try to start at 5th fret... less space. (up to 9th fret)
Use less pressure, no noise, super relaxed body....
This makes you so relaxed and so confident.
Thank you.
Tomo
Day 17 | Week 3
Today, I will focus on:
+ playing notes with no finger noise
+ right elbow movement and thumb placement
So grateful for the supplemental videos. I will study them closely and rewatch the week 3 video.
✨
Good job!
You got it!
I am so happy to hear that.
Thank you.
Tomo
Day 17 Searching for balance between right elbow and left hand pressure has really caught my interest and attention. I'm curious about where this focus will lead me! Thanks for the invitation to microscopic focus Tomo!
Good job!
My body, my elbow, my thumb... my guitar playing!
Yes! I am super picky in good way!
After my China trip, I noticed our butter dish is empty (no butter) So I commented it to my wife. She didn't like that comment! See, good for guitar but not others! When I see 1/4 butter, I always add new one! I said to her "This is foundation of life! LOL!
Thank you.
