Been listening to this. So gratifying to hear new artists doing their thing well.
Hi guys! I found this song the other day and i loved it!
In the start of the song John Mayer says that good music needs a host! And i though of this forum! Thank you all the hosts in the forum for sharing music. Enjoy 🙂
Love that thought, Markos. Also love Robert Cray. His voice is so good it's hard to separate his singing from his playing - they're so good together. I lived in New Orleans in '90-'91 and was lucky enough to see BB, John Lee Hooker, and Robert Cray all in one Jazz Fest. It was amazing.
Great tune!
Yes, thanks to everyone for sharing the music!
Robert is considered a local here in the Pacific Northwest.
Also, Clay is so right. I think everyone should really try to get to New Orleans once for Jazz Fest. I have no desire to go to Mardi Gras but have been to Jazz Fest a couple times. The people, the tunes and the food!! So much fun!
Kurt
We have some friends that are N.O. Jazz Fest regulars. They have been imploring us to go for years. Might have to make that happen.
Love it!
Tomo
Please listen this.... Otis Rush!
Tomo
So good, love both versions!!
He is saying only what needs to be said, terse and efficient!
Loving the slow blues Tomo, thank you for sharing! I had not heard of Otis Rush.
Full album (is not on apple but I found it) here:
Otis was so deep!!! So glad I got to hear and see him in person.
Great choices you guys. Fantastic way to kick off my day!
Kurt
Love it Kurt!
My day is winding down. Going for another walk and maybe more practice, planning to listen to Otis again for dessert.
Thank you also for sight reading inspiration! (Also to Linda for recent transcription work!) I started the pages right before Sea to Sea yesterday morning again and realized I am not able to recognize triads (inversions, minor and augmented) too well. I will keep going though. Thank you my friend! :)
Loving all of these. Otis Rush makes the guitar cry.
I wanted to share this I didn’t see this until recently. Maybe you guys have seen it but he breaks his string and just keeps singing and changes it at the same time
Jeff, that a great description of Otis man.
BB is too cool!! That was awesome! Yeah, just stay cool...life lessons!
I need to watch that again to see if he continued with the same song, or if that a new one. Tech just gave him a string, that is awesome!
Also...I did't know about this whole giving the kids back thing, is that an option? 😆
I've never seen that. What a pro!
Blues is so good!
Tomo
Listening to Otis again tonight :)
I think I will too Sunil
Right on Jeff!
I keep thinking of what you said:
"Otis makes the guitar cry."
Let's keep going my friend.
Hope its a great day!
I love this song so much!
How did he come up with that Intro melody? So amazing!
Tomo
I have no idea but sounds so good
I don't know either.
Sublime.
Is there an answer?
The question makes me want to post the entire episode from Netflix's Chef's Table, Season 3, Episode 1: Jeong Kwan
Beautiful, Sunil.
Henry Miller wrote "Until we lose ourselves there is no hope of finding ourselves".
Love it Linda.
I think that's true.
Henry Miller reminds me of the grandfather clock my parents bought in the early 80's (different Henry Miller I am sure haha).
Mom still has it. My job every morning to open the drapse and blinds downstairs every Sunday wind the clock...60bpm...
Also looked up Henry Miller the author/painter you quoted above, interesting guy!
I gotta read some of his stuff, I didn't know he influenced Kerouac and some of the other Beat authors.
Thank you Linda!
Sunil, such a great Sunday morning routine...let in the light, and rewind the grandfather clock to reset for the upcoming week.
Yeah, Henry Miller could get out there a bit, but he wrote some beautiful stuff.
He was incredible. I knew some of his music, but not much and maybe a little about him then somehow a friend landed tickets and took me to his performance at Berklee when Berklee gave him an honorary degree (around 1984). It wasn't about speed or technical stuff - though he was technically skilled - but he was "in" the music - from his heart to his hands. You know, his voice was awesome too. It's hard to explain its power. Anyway, from that day BB King occupied a special place in music for me.
JD
That’s awesome Johno. Totally agree incredible singer
Great memory JD!
I wish I saw BB and so many others, live!
Clapton studied the greats so well. I hear some of the music in this thread in this song.
So good!
Tomo
"...and fell down on my knees!"
Gosh Tomo, could we ever please do a thread on Crossroads and break it down?
Such an awesome song! Want to learn it 💯
Ps did you ever see this version when Rush got inducted to Rock Hall of Fame
Gary Clark Jr
Jon Fogerty (Creedence)
Tom Murillo (Rage)
Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)
Rush
Chris Cornell (Soundgarden)
All playing this!!!
...my goodness...lovin' this!!
I was walking with my phone next to my ear yesterday, Cream on repeat!
Feet end up synching with backbeat, feels like haha
! Sounds good!
Crossroads solo is amazing! Very important to figure that solo only by listening!
Tomo
Will do!
