That trumpet of Wynton's looks like it spent many smoky hours in the speakeasy's way back in the day.

James delivered a devastating punch line in his important song, "Fire and Rain":

He prolly has several, but I have seen Wynton with that vintage trumpet for years. Ernest Hemingway would say it was "graced by honest wear".

Chord progression!

Hey Jeffrey, when you guys talk about transcribing are you writing out the solo in notation? Or are you figuring out bits right on the fretboard?
Definitely need the chords first, right?

Good question Ken. I’ll tell you what I’m doing here.. and not sure if this is actually transcribing yet to be honest. Where I’m starting with rose room is learning the song chord progression by ear and starting to learn the lead guitar parts by ear. Writing down the chords and when the changes happen. I just listen first and then try to play along to it. Kyoto I learned the chord progression from the book , there’s a lot of detail to the strumming! Am now trying to hear and play the lead parts. It’s nice to know what the chords are on this one already so I have a base line to work from. But I like the unknown with Rose Room also and trying to figure it out.

I asked Tomo and he said you need to know the chords first to help the notes in the solo make sense.
I'm still listening to it and learning. Loving my new Charlie vinyl but am using the digital version to replay over and over.

I get that catalog delivered somehow. I was amazed when that picture was staring at me from the mailbox. That evil magazine lands in my box a couple times a year. Full of temptation. Wait until you see the prices for the stereo equipment and accessories.
The albums are super high-quality pressings and usually limited editions.

The catalog is similar to Ken's fancy guitar dealer for me. I try to avoid temptation if I can.

A few years ago, one of my neighbors rang my doorbell and told me the mailman had delivered my big catalog to him by mistake. It was sealed. He said if I get tired of it he would like to look at. I let him have it. I would give him more if I knew which house he lived in!

Yes! Closing in on Kyoto and Rose room on chords and can hear both almost entire songs in my head. Getting there. Keep listening and play more!
