I like the drumming too
Lenny Breau
It Could Happen To You.
1961. His first sessions at age 20.
Backed by teenagers Levon Helm-drums and Rick Danko- bass of The Band.
Rick and Levon were just starting out then with The Hawks. They were "in school" backing Professor Ronnie Hawkins.
The Hallmark Sessions

Is morning 6: 27 , wow ! Get up early you can feel so cool ! This rain make everything is happiness !
Fresh air and before sun up , so peace time :)
Sweet summer rain!
Very nice Kurt - I had never heard of him. Sounds like interstellar-alien-intelligence advanced for 1961! I can't think of anyone else playing like this back then. Can't believe I don't know him.
Lenny is really interesting Clay.
He was one of first jazz players to sometimes use 7 strings. He was sort of playing piano licks. Had his own TV show in Canada when he was really young. Chet Atkins gave him a big break.
Died under very mysterious circumstances. Found in swimming pool in 1984.but didn't drown, he was strangled! Wife was never charged but suspected. Then buried in an unmarked grave in Los Angeles!
Kurt
Thanks Kurt - I'm going to find more of his stuff.
Going contemporary (again). I am a huge Louis Cole / KNOWER fan. I listen to that stuff over and over and never tire of it. Anyway, KNOWER uses a lot of guests, but their primary bassist is Sam Wilkes. I was inspired to post this by the lap steel post on the Blues Listeners thread. Just a nice, slow flow here, and totally interesting rhythmic / melodic choices on slide by Dylan Day. Also, Sam is a role model of the "move your body" dictum, no matter what video you watch:
Oh yeah! This is all new to me. Thanks Clay!
Sound is amazing! Love the flow!
Sam's bass hits you deep.
I appreciate learning about these guys.
Kurt
Thanks Clay. This is right in my wheelhouse.
Larry Carlton’s son played on tomos blue sky album as Kurt mentioned. Larry appears on some crusaders albums. I really like this one though. There’s something amazing about this simple melody
Oh yeah
Thanks Jeffrey. So cool! Love how they stretch their tracks out.
This was their first album after they changed the name from Jazz Crusaders to "The Crusaders",
So much to absorb. I also love their super long version of Carole King's "So Far Away" too.
Makes you feel good!
Kurt
I like it. It has an upbeat, easy feeling.
Really does. Makes you happy
I've got some older Crusaders vinyl. Really good stuff. Agree on the makes you happy point. I believe they've had some changing personnel over the years?
So good. Love this one too very much
Wow ya so this one is really great. Larry Carlton!

Doesn't hurt to have pretty Purdie making it feel SO good . What is amazing about Chuck is that he plays in many different colors oo . I just played a gig playing one of his tracks on a Laura Nyro tune . You'd never think it was THIS guy .
Purdie was so amazing at Cory Wong's Syncopated Summer Camp!
Tomo
I love this album! I will try focusing on bass line too
Been working on "All of Me" since the July challenge. Was trying to find a version that doesn't get too fancy. Listened to Ella, Frank, Billie. Going with Django for deep listening. Already listened three or four times this evening. I really like the clarinet (alto sax?) solo. Of course, Django is awesome:
So great to hear that Clay! All of me is fun to play.
First you want to practice a simple Real Book version.
But last 2 bars, you can play 1 6 2 5.
Tomo
Thanks Tomo - yes, using Real Book and your video. I'm at the point where I've got the chords and changes down, but technique still needs a lot of work. Muting on Cmaj7 and D-7 is different from what I practice with Bb swing groove - plus I'm trying to add the alternating bass notes like you do. So I need a lot of work. But once I get the chords down, I want to try the melody. And then some improvisation - I'm inspired by the clarinet for that. Anyway - this will be months. Thanks for all of the support!
You're very welcome Clay! It's all about foundsation! In this case is all about R 3 7 / R 7 3! Please enjoy applying these simple 3 note chords with Jazz Standard tunes. Root to 5th! Melody is so good! Fun playing some triads too.
Tomo
