:Dorian https://tomovhxtv.vhx.tv/videos/et04-dorian-scale
The demonstrate about Dorian scale , Wow , With loop , Super amazing sound !!
Jiayang I just went back and watched that. Always valuable to review. I always re-learn something I forgot or missed the first time.
Great little analogy in there about knowing vs. memorizing.
Also, that IS a fun little loop in there (Cmaj7 and C-7). It highlights the Dorian perfectly.
Yes , Linda , Totally amazing two chords , I haven't learn that chords like in the triad , but someway seems heard that sound in some Bosa rhythm song ! Ha! First have this feeling , like little spark ❤️ Is so happiness can learn with you!
Yes, the Dorian (b3 and b7) sits nicely in that C-7 chord. It is a great feeling, a great rhythm. It does make one happy!
Another great tip from the video is "don't try to use chromaticism in the modes".
Thank you Jiayang and Linda for inspirational comments!
Tomo
Thank you Jiayang for sharing that Dorian lesson.
Tomo
Thank you Linda for watching that Dorian lesson video!

Tomo
Loving this too. Thanks Linda!
Thanks, Linda, for sharing this great artist.
This is new for me. Her voice is an amazing instrument.
Love it!
Kurt
Yes, beautiful voice like an instrument. I first heard her on the radio while driving and I almost had to pull over to the side of the road just to listen. She is amazing.
Hi all,
at the last live stream, when Tomo mentioned he liked vocal jazz and sax players like Charlie Parker, Ben Webster, and Coleman Hawkins, I wondered briefly if he liked Lester Young (really contrasting playing style compared to other sax players) and Billie Holiday (I don't have many vocal jazz albums, except Billie's). As I was rewatching the live stream, I thought about this great live by Billie Holiday with stars including Webster (ts), Young (ts), Hawkins (ts), Gerry Mulligan (bs), Roy Eldridge (tp).
This is one of not too many songs she wrote and she recorded it multiple times. My favorite is the original Commodore version in 1939, but this live version is as good, especially because you can watch her and others on video.
Yuji
She was so amazing. It's like a music lesson just listening to her. This video also highlights how talented some of these other musicians were (Roy Eldridge).
Thank you for sharing!
I love Ben Webster, Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins.
Tomo
What a great singer!
Thank you Yuji , here have many amazing musician !
So beautiful music !!
Thanks Yuji. Another that I wrote down is Sonny stitt
On a Sunday night before bed and couldn't help posting this amazing singer. Although not strictly jazz she's another legend. The last few pages of Billie and Ella post made me think of the great female singers.
Enjoy!
Thank you Michael for sharing , WOW ,Nina Simone is amazing !!
Thank you Michael for sharing!
Yes!
Tomo
So upbeat, pretty song, instills so much joy. Thanks for sharing. Like the opening on the piano with stride style too.
Love this song so much! This sounds so great on a Monday morning.
Thanks for exposing me to Nina! It is so powerful to hear a solo version.
Great song Michael!
Kurt
This song is being blasted these days by the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
My favorite version is by Mavis Stapes and Levon Helm before he died.
Thank you Kurt for sharing this!
Great taste!
Tomo
Been enjoying this HR Tune. Nice morning coffee music.
Thank you Ken for sharing this!
Great groove, nice and short
Tomo
Thanks, Ken. That's some nice clean guitar in there.
Came across this Howard Roberts one today at a record shop Ken. Listening to it right now. Would’ve never known about it unless you said something. Really nice
Great Jeffrey! Good find! Such a fine melodic player with catchy lines.
Loving this so far. Thanks Ken!
This is cool Ken! Howard was quite a guy.
He was living here in Seattle when he passed away in 1992, He wore a lot of hats.
Kurt
It was cool that he played on all these old TV show theme songs.
Lead guitar on the theme from The Twilight Zone as well as acoustic and electric guitar on I Love Lucy, The Munsters, Bonanza, The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, Get Smart, Batman, Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, Peter Gunn, Lost in Space, Dragnet, The Wild Wild West, Mission: Impossible, The Odd Couple, Dick Van Dyke, I Dream of Jeannie, and the theme for the film Bullitt.
Kurt
Yes, Kurt! What a long list. And it doesn’t even begin to match what he did with the wrecking crew in LA. Arguably one of the most listened to jazz musicians of all time. He played on numerous rock and pop songs with the wrecking crew, and of course, his own jazz adventures.
Great melodic player. His solos have a lyrical quality that I really enjoy.
Thank you Ken ! Beautiful song , Can clear feel Bass line !
Evening suggestion. Couldn't resist. All this discussion about fabulous jazz guitarists and I've never busted out with an artist that I've spent hours (and hours) listening to. This is one of the first concerts that I ever went to a thousand years ago. Mellow out to this tune from Pat Metheny Group... "If I could."
Flat out beautiful.
Beautiful share Linda!
Thanks so much!
Tomo
Nice. Love this music Linda! Sounds so great. I only know Pat's 1975 debut album "Bright Size Life" with Jaco.
When I was a stagehand at the Paramount in the early 80's Pat came to town. Lyle Mays asked me if I wanted to play chess with him! I thanked him for asking and said no. That is the only time I have ever been asked to play chess.
Kurt
What a beautiful music ! You're right Linda , just can't resist , Even in the noon time .
When I listen this song , my mom just walking by my room , and said : ‘ When you in my womb , I like listen this music with you ! ’
Wow this is so amazing , and feel so peaceful , thank you Linda .
Kurt, you have so many amazing stories. Lyle may have suspected that you were a chess master!
I hear you, Jiayang. It is impossible to be stressed out while listening to this. Clearly, you inherited some of your great taste in music from your mom!
I have just always loved Metheny's tone from the first notes I heard from him. I remember thinking "Is that even a guitar?"
Fantastic.
